To say that the fan reaction to the amount of Pokémon you could catch in Sword and Shield “didn’t go over so well” would be an understatement. From petitions to angry youtube videos, it’s been a whirlwind of chaos in the Pokémon fandom. Just last month, as sort of a way to quell down the fury, Nintendo announced the first-ever Pokémon DLC in the Expansion Pass, which will include two new major areas, new legendary Pokemon, Gigamax forms for Kanto and Galar starters, and a bunch of returning favorites, including Lyconroc, Sealeo, and Nidorino.

Making the deal even sweeter is that you can still obtain these returning Pokémon without purchasing the DLC via trading or Pokémon Home. So, with only a few months till the first DLC comes out, we decided to help Nintendo out and give ten old Pokémon we want to see in the Sword and Shield DLC.

10 Gen 2-6 Starters

After Pokémon Home launched, many were surprised to see that you could import of few of the old starters into Sword and Shield. The only problem was that you could only bring Kanto and Alola Starters into the Galar region.

While it’s great to see Bulbasaur and Litten become available in Sword and Shield, we want to see more love swung towards our favorite starters from gen 2-6. It’s a shame since Pokémon like Torterra and Greninja were featured in Detective Pikachu, and Pokémon like Blazekin and Sceptile were playable in Pokken Tournament. They have to come back in Sword and Shield.

9 Salamence

Of all the Dragon-Type Pokémon featured throughout the series, Salamence stood out by being the first Dragon Pokémon to look like a Dragon. Not some Bi-peddle monster like Dragonite, nor a Goo thing like Goodra, we’re talking about a four-legged, fire breathing Dragon.

Despite this simple, yet appealing look given to Salamence, he somehow wasn’t featured in Pokémon: Sword and Shield, yet the Three-Headed Gidorah wannabe made it in? That’s inexcusable, and the mistake must be undone for the Sword and Shield DLC.

8 Scizor

Since Scyther was first introduced in Red and Blue, he’s become a favorite in the eyes of millions. It’s so beloved that it received an evolved form in Scizor in the following generation and even a Mega Evolution in Gen 6. Scizor was also featured as a playable character in Pokken Tournament.

Despite this, Scizor wasn’t able to make the cut in Sword and Shield, along with A LOT of Pokémon from Gold and Silver. Sword and Shield have a few Pokémon from Gold and Silver, but a lot of the fan favorites are unrepresented, and Scizor was one of the absolute best of the bunch.

7 Aggron

Along with Gold and Silver, Ruby and Sapphire have a lot of beloved Pokémon not available in Sword and Shield. While the likes of Gardevoir and Glalie are still available in the most recent installment, some like Aggron are nowhere to be found. Aggron was one of the strongest and coolest steel-Pokémon to be introduced in gen 3.

With its ability to not take damage from moves like Takedown and its immense defensive states, Aggron was a Pokémon not to be reckoned with. He’s even the Go-To Pokémon of the Hoenn Champion, Steven. If a Champion is using him, you know that Pokémon is going to be pretty popular.

6 Alakazam

10 Old Pokémon We Want To See In Sword & Shield DLC

Alakazam and his evolution line have been the most feared Psychic Pokémon for decades. Back in Red and Blue, Alakazam was one of the toughest Pokémon to defeat, requiring you to obtain one of the rare Ghost Pokémon to take it down, as well as Sabrina.

Who could forget the time when Ash went up against Sabrina, and the Psychic user’s Kadabra was flinging Pikachu like a rag-doll until Haunter came in to make her laugh? With a Pokémon as strong as Alakazam, it’s no wonder why many lost their minds when it was axed

5 Luxray

10 Old Pokémon We Want To See In Sword & Shield DLC

How many times are we going to go into a grassland only for it to be flooded with Electrike? It’s a good Pokémon, but just about every Pokémon game has you running into Electrike all the freaking time. It wouldn’t be so bad if its evolved form, Manectric, were also available for catching, but it’s not.

It’s times like this that make us miss Luxray, and it’s evolution line. This Pokémon was first introduced in Diamond and Pearl and was nowhere as annoying to encounter as Electrike. It was used just enough that it felt special to capture the Electric Cat Pokémon. Now, we’re stuck with Electrike for the rest of Sword and Shield. Please change it up for the DLC, GameFreak.

4 Heracross

Just look at Heracross. How can you not love this Bug? Since Ash caught it, Heracross has been featured in just about every game in the series. It even got one of the best mega evolutions in Gen 6.

Heracross may not have a typical evolution like other Bug Pokémon, but that’s what made him special. He was able to kick ass and take names with his powerful horn, and the numerous fighting moves under his belt. Now that he’s gone, no other Pokémon has been able to fill the void that Heracross left.

3 Psyduck

10 Old Pokémon We Want To See In Sword & Shield DLC

It was pretty surprising that Psyduck didn’t make the cut of all Pokémon. The Pokémon with a Chronic Headache was always there in the early years of the TV show, continually jumping out of Misty’s Bag and driving her mad with his antics. Psyduck was so popular that he was even a supporting character in Detective Pikachu, featuring the titular hero giving the poor guy a Foot Massage.

We guess that GameFreak and Nintendo didn’t expect Psyduck to play such a significant role because he’s nowhere in sight in the Galar region. Since Slowpoke is available in Sword and Shield, we need the other Water-Psychic Pokémon to come back to the series

2 Pidgeot

10 Old Pokémon We Want To See In Sword & Shield DLC

Who doesn’t remember catching their first Pokémon? If you were like a lot of us, that first Pokémon was probably one of the many Bird Pokémon in the wild. The best of the bunch will always be Pidgeot. Call us nostalgic, but we can’t think of a better bird Pokémon than the OG one that started it all.

Sure, we have Noctowl and Croviknight, but none were as cool as the bird that could go Mach 2 in seconds. We miss you Pidgeot, and we hope you come back to us in the DLC

1 Dragonite

Sure, we dissed Dragonite earlier, but we still love the big lug. Dragonite was always a tough Pokémon to beat, let alone capture. When you finally did either, you were an unstoppable killing machine.

Even today, Dragonite is one of the most reliable and beloved Pokémon. In a poll conducted by IGN, Dragonite was THE most requested Pokémon to return for the upcoming DLC by the site’s users. With Ash finally catching one in the recent season of the Pokemon TV Series, we got a good feeling that everyone’s favorite Dragon-Pokémon is about to make a comeback to the DLC (and he’ll probably make children cry when he’s released).
