A Frustrated Shroud Compares Apex Legends Lag To PUBG

Twitch streamer Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek isn’t exactly known for frustrated outbursts or heated rants, but that’s exactly what viewers were treated to following Shroud’s loss in a recent round of Apex Legends.

The loss came as a result of the lag that has hindered Apex Legends players since its release. In the midsts of a firefight, Shroud encountered enough lag that caused his bullets to not connect with his opponent. Unfortunately, the enemy’s bullets found Shroud easily, causing him to go to the ground.

Shroud held it together as he awaited revival, even notifying a teammate of an approaching enemy, but the squad inevitably lost, which is when Shroud snapped a bit.

“We literally lost to these guys because of f***ing lag,” Shroud shouted, undoubtedly peaking the audio level on his mic. “I hate it when stuff isn’t in my control!”

It all came to a head when Shroud compared Apex Legends to its infamously buggy and laggy battle royale rival, PLAYERUNKOWN’S BATTLEGROUND, before yelling and walking out of the room entirely.

“I can’t play until it’s fixed. I can’t play in this lag. This is PUBG all over again, dude. I can’t!”

While the end of the clip is rather comical, it’s likely that most, if not all gamers can empathize with the rage that was surging through Shroud’s veins. We have all experienced lag in some form or another, possibly also resulting in smashed controllers. This instance was simply the tipping point for Shroud.

It is a fair reaction to have, especially in a game as fast-paced as Apex Legends. Even the slightest laggy delay could result in a loss during situations that players might otherwise win. PUBG, on the other hand, is admittedly slower in its pace, as well as during its firefights, but latency issues have still managed to be a pain point in the game.

Will the lag issue be enough to actually keep Shroud from playing Apex Legends? That is doubtful. Apex Legends provides more pros than cons right now, especially compared with other games in the genre. Respawn is also hard at work to continue improving upon the game, which is already arguably more stable than PUBG was in its early days (or years). And let’s be honest, it’s not a stretch to imagine that someone as talented as Shroud will be able to overcome and compensate for any latency issues anyways.
