In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can make the moon. No, this is not a euphemism.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is many things. First and foremost, it’s a social simulation game where you get to talk to cute anthropomorphic animals, and who doesn’t want that? Second, it’s a crafting game where you get to create so many useful things, from ladders to slingshots to giant laser-eyed robots.

But perhaps the biggest thing that New Horizons provides is a sense of empowerment. In these troubled times, there’s nothing more appealing than feeling like you have the agency to do whatever you want, like go outside and catch bugs or even build your own moon.

That’s right: in New Horizons, you can build the whole moon.

It’s not exactly easy building a moon, so prepare to be in this for the long haul. First, you need the DIY recipe, which you obtain from Celeste. She can be found wandering around town in the dead of night charting the movement of the stars, which is a totally normal occupation for an owl. She hands you the DIY recipe for the Magic Wand, so you’ll likely remember her fondly.

Recipe obtained, now you need to make the moon. This will require 15 Star Fragments and 1 Large Star Fragment. Since the only way to get fragments is to wish upon a shooting star, this means you’ll have to be well into your game before you can even think of making the moon.

You can read up on the ins and outs of wishing upon stars in our previous guide here. To summarize, keep an eye out for meteor showers at night. If you see one, tilt your character’s camera towards the shooting star and press A. Then the next morning you should be able to scour the beach to pick up fallen Star Fragments.

Congratulations! Now you have a moon of your very own. Place it wherever you think the moonlight will strike you best, but watch out for werewolves.
