The Batman: Arkham series supposedly came to a conclusion back in 2015 with Batman: Arkham Knight, but as we’ve seen with titles like Halo, Gears Of War, and Mass Effect, no successful game franchise ever truly ends. Warner Bros. has been in the Batman business for far too long to just let it lie dormant, so it’s highly likely that another game in the series is being worked on as we speak.

This seems even more plausible now, as WB Montreal may have let the cat out of the bag a tad early. One intrepid Reddit user has uncovered something on Amazon that could potentially hint at a big announcement coming soon.

These Amazon placeholder titles were found by Reddit user tea6man9, and were seemingly put there as if a new game was about to be revealed for preorder. Upon being discovered they’ve since vanished. If these placeholder titles are indicative of a new entry in the Arkham series, or perhaps a new Batman series entirely, it seems like it’ll release for PS4, Xbox One, and even PC, which is a bit surprising considering how big of a mess Arkham Knight’s PC port was.

The big question is what could this mystery project be? The big rumor as of late is that a game based on The Court Of Owls storyline could be on its way, which would be the first time that comic has been adapted for a video game. Of course there are other possibilities, like a Justice League or Superman game, or perhaps a game based on some other, lesser known superhero team.

It’s also interesting that this is a project coming from WB Montreal, not the more well known Batman developer, Rocksteady. They’ve been radio silent on their next game for years now, leaving many to wildly speculate on what they’re working on. WB Montreal have made a Arkham game before, with Batman: Arkham Origins being their sole entry in the series. It was a solid game, although it’s generally considered the black sheep of the Arkham family. It’s possible that if Rocksteady has moved on from making Batman games, maybe WB Montreal has been given the duty of developing for the Caped Crusader.

These placeholders have created a whole bunch of questions, although it could be the case that this isn’t going to be about a Batman game at all. In fact, it still remains to be seen whether or not these placeholders were hinting at a new game, or if they’re even real. However, Batman hasn’t popped up on a console or PC for far too long, and it’d certainly be nice to be patrolling the streets of Gotham once again.
