A player of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has shared a handy and impressive gameplay trick that can be used to fool Guardians for a quick win – even when facing multiple threats. Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s enemies can be beaten in a myriad of ways thanks to the game’s clever attack systems and range of weapon types, with players still discovering new tricks to this day.

While the Zelda series is home to a number of memorable foes, Breath of the Wild’s Guardians are perhaps some of the most notable. The ancient robot-like Guardians are introduced to the player fairly early on in the game, and while they may seem daunting and powerful when booting up the title for the first time, they soon become simple yet satisfying to take down with the correct weapons, skills, and armor. BOTW’s Guardians provide a challenge with their smart design, and are even able to defuse bombs while chasing their target.

Redditor RinHara5aki (via GamesRadar) has revealed that BOTW’s Guardians can become confused if the player uses Magnesis, with their lasers unable to register Link even if they were already primed to attack. In a video clip, RinHara5aki is seen facing imminent death when targeted by the lasers of multiple Guardians. Waiting until the final second before the lasers will hit, the player quickly activates the Magnesis rune and drops an item in front of them. According to the user, this makes “an invisible hitbox with weird properties,” which also stops Guardians from being able to detect the player.

The exploit is one of many ways players can use runes like Magnesis to their advantage in BOTW. While weapons such as swords might be the first thing players grab when in battle, the runes are incredibly powerful if used correctly, and in the right setting. The Stasis rune is a particular favorite among crafty BOTW users, with the power allowing them to fire off heavy items such as boulders, that otherwise wouldn’t be much use against enemies. The recently-shared Magnesis exploit is a little-known one, and it could be a useful and easy trick to employ when faced with a room filled with Guardians. It’s worth noting that users will only have a small invisible hitbox, and moving outside of its coverage will result in the Guardians once again being able to target Link.

Breath of the Wild is just a few months shy of its fifth birthday, having launched alongside the Nintendo Switch in March 2017, but its many players are still discovering everything the game has to offer. From exploits like the Magnesis discovery to hidden BOTW dialogue, the title is arguably one of the Switch’s most detailed and intricate worlds to date. It’s hoped that Nintendo plans to continue the same level of detail in the upcoming BOTW sequel, with fans curious to know how it may develop on its predecessor’s rune system. The as-of-yet-untitled sequel is due to launch sometime in 2022.
