Victor Strand has teased killing a major character in Fear The Walking Dead season 7 – who will it be? Few things are certain in The Walking Dead’s zombie apocalypse, but as sure as the sun rises in the east and zombies are carnivores, Victor Strand will always stab you in the back. After 6 seasons of walking an ethical tightrope between good man and conman, Strand has embraced his inner villain in Fear The Walking Dead season 7, evolving into the arrogant, egotistical, ruthless leader of The Tower, standing atop the backs of others and building a cult of personality, one Texan throwback at a time.
By the end of Fear The Walking Dead season 7’s “Cindy Hawkins,” Strand has rescued June and John Dorie Sr. after their bunker collapsed, and Colman Domingo’s character absolutely delights in gloating about his heroics to Morgan Jones. Morgan has a simple reply for Strand – keep saving his friends and there won’t be problem; hurt them and there will. Fear The Walking Dead has already made very clear that Strand and Morgan come to blows in season 7 (the poster is literally their massive heads shouting at each other), and a showdown between Morgan’s morality and Strands selfishness is being heavily set up.
For this to happen, however, someone important has to die. Strand’s attitude might stink worse than the contents of Mo’s diaper, but if he continues helping folks like June and John, Morgan will gladly suffer a few big-headed tirades over the radio. As Morgan himself states, the only thing that’ll bring him and Strand to blows is a member of their group getting hurt by Victor’s hand. This could mean a major character death triggers Strand vs. Morgan in Fear The Walking Dead season 7.
Strand has already demonstrated his newfound ruthlessness by tossing Will over the top of The Tower. Neither he, nor the audience, were especially acquainted with that character, and Morgan probably won’t be losing sleep over poor Will either. The inevitable flashpoint needs to involve a more familiar face – someone both viewers and Morgan Jones care about deeply. While Will may not have been that figure, his murder did at least prove how far Strand would go to protect his domain. If June, John, or any other major Fear The Walking Dead character began challenging Strand’s leadership, it’s certainly not beyond Victor to give them a rapid ride to the ground floor also.
The bigger question is who might Victor Strand murder to incur Morgan’s wrath? Fear The Walking Dead season 7 hasn’t yet caught up with the group who took off in a CRM helicopter at the end of season 6, but trailers reveal the likes of Dwight, Charlie, Sarah and Wes will begin resurfacing imminently. Though Strand could feasibly murder any of those in the right circumstances, the most fitting death to spark Morgan and Strand’s war would be Daniel Salazar. Played by Ruben Blades, Daniel is one of few Fear The Walking Dead originals still standing in season 7, and he more than anyone has been attuned to Victor’s deceptive habits. Indeed, it was Daniel who spent much of Fear The Walking Dead season 6 giving Strand the side-eye and assuring anyone who’d listen that Victor is incapable of truly changing. Strand’s current antics prove Daniel was right all along, and of all the main group in Fear The Walking Dead, it’s his death Strand would take most satisfaction from.
The pieces (and personalities) align neatly for Strand to kill Daniel and instigate an almighty clash against Morgan Jones in Fear The Walking Dead season 7. If Daniel were to visit The Tower in a future episode, he’d be the first to call out Strand’s dictatorship. Will was murdered for less, and Strand’s current position at the top of the pile (literally) means he can finally get rid of Daniel without repercussion. As a friend and ally of Morgan’s, this would certainly be enough to cause the big battle Fear The Walking Dead season 7 is building toward.
