A new Grand Theft Auto 5 mod from modder JulioNIB unleashes Batman in San Andreas with his gadgets and custom animations. Though the title released over eight years ago, GTA 5 mods remain about as popular as ever. This year alone has seen several interesting fan-made creations surface online, in fact, including a couple that let the likes of Godzilla and Invincible’s Omni-Man lay waste to Los Santos and its surrounding areas.

Not all news has been good news in the world of Grand Theft Auto’s vast modding community on PC, however. Publisher Take-Two Interactive continues to crackdown by purging mods with DMCA takedowns. To the chagrin of many a modder and player, these takedowns do not exclusively target GTA 5, given that titles such as 2005’s GTA: San Andreas have similarly sat on the receiving end of Take-Two’s efforts. Programmers for the Grand Theft Auto reverse-enigneering fan projects were even sued by the company. Some modders still try their hand at developing new experiences, though.

As reported by DSOGaming, modder JulioNIB uploaded a pre-release final build of their Batman GTA 5 mod. At the time of writing, the build is locked behind JulioNIB’s Patreon page, though the full release will go live for all at a later date. The mod features custom animations for the vigilante, who’s dressed in a Batsuit resembling his Telltale garb, though the Bat-symbol looks like a black version of the one Terry McGinnis wears in Batman Beyond. Of course, the gameplay wouldn’t capture the Dark Knight’s essence without his signature moves and high-tech gadgets. One such move sees him launch a Batclaw takedown, wherein he latches onto a foe with the grapple device, pulls himself forward, then kicks the enemy off their feet. It’s a page out of the Batman Arkham gameplay handbook, further evidenced by the appearance of a glide-based takedown and stylized uppercut. JulioNIB showcased the GTA 5 mod in the following videos:

As far as Grand Theft Auto 5 mods go, this certainly counts among the most interesting to recently make the rounds. It still needs a bit of fine-tuning, but this Batman creation could prove quite impressive once all is said and done.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two originally released GTA 5 in September 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The open-world adventure eventually migrated to PC, PS4, and Xbox One, helping the title reach its most recent sales milestone of 145 million copies sold worldwide. No doubt the figure will climb further still once the PS5 and Xbox Series versions arrive next year.
