GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition Leaks Everything We Learned

Even before the official announcement of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, leaked reports about the games had been made public. Now that players have had a little bit more tangible information from Rockstar about the upcoming titles, many are likely anxious for more, and while news is coming soon – ideally to tie in with Grand Theft Auto 3’s anniversary on October 22, 2021 – there is already a good bit which has been uncovered.

Multiple GTA Trilogy leaks have hinted at the direction Rockstar is taking the 3D Grand Theft Auto series, and it is likely they are more accurate than the plethora of rumors and leaks surrounding the developer’s other project Grand Theft Auto 6. While GTA 6 leaks are often blown out of proportion or taken as unbiased truth with no evidence to support them by many players who have been excitedly waiting for a new entry in the franchise for years, the recent GTA Trilogy leaks appear to be much more rooted in reality.

One of the first GTA Trilogy leaks to hit the internet after the game’s announcement was focused on the Achievements Lists for Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Since then other leaks have revealed information about Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition’s gameplay updates, its graphics, and even its PC requirements. Here’s everything we know so far:

GTA Trilogy On Steam

One of the most recent GTA Trilogy leaks concerns the game’s PC distribution. Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be available through the Rockstar Launcher on PC, but Rockstar Games insider Tez2 has discovered database listings for the GTA Trilogy on Steam, and it has since been discovered that Steam IDs for all three 3D Grand Theft Auto titles are also visible. This is a strong indication that Rockstar will announce a Steam release for GTA Trilogy on PC, which is good news for players who enjoy using only one front-end program for game launching.

GTA Trilogy PC Requirements

According to member and notable GTA leaker alloc8or of GTAForums, these are the PC requirements for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. At the time of this writing, no Rockstar Games Launcher or Steam page exists to confirm these numbers:

Minimum requirements:

Intel Core i5-2700K / AMD FX-6300

Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 2GB / AMD Radeon R9 280 3GB

8 GB RAM

45 GB Storage Space

Windows 10

Recommended:

Intel Core i7-6600K / AMD Ryzen 5 2600

Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB / AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB

16 GB RAM

45 GB Storage Space

Windows 10

Until an official announcement from Rockstar it is unclear if these are the accurate PC specs for GTA Trilogy, but it is curious that they are higher than Grand Theft Auto 5’s PC requirements. This could potentially mean a bigger graphical improvement than players were originally predicting.

GTA Trilogy Sales Discount

The same GTAForums user who shared the above information about the GTA Trilogy’s PC specs also stated that players who purchase the GTA Trilogy through the Rockstar Games Launcher will receive a $10 discount on their next Rockstar Games purchase (on qualifying products $15 or more). This could be a way for the company to entice people into buying the game through their own first-party system and draw them away from a less lucrative Steam release, if PC editions of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition do end up releasing on Steam.

GTA Trilogy’s Leaked Achievement List

GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition Leaks Everything We Learned

One of the bigger leaks Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has had concerns the game’s achievements. All of the achievements for all three 3D Grand Theft Auto titles were leaked online over a week ago (once again by GTAForums user alloc8tor) and they include a lot of in-jokes from the series, including one called “…Here We Go Again” which is a callback to CJ’s iconic (and much-memed) line at the beginning of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The full GTA Trilogy achievements list also contains references to other Rockstar properties like The Warriors, where killing 25 gang members with either fists or melee weapons will trigger an achievement titled “Come Out To Play-y-y-y.”

GTA Trilogy Graphics, Lighting, & Animations

The next GTA Trilogy leak comes from Reddit instead of GTAForums. According to leaker GTACheaterMan, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition’s graphics will be on par with the original game versions, with “slight enhancements to faces, better animations, and overall better lighting.”

This seems to contradict the reported needed for higher PC specs, but GTACheaterMan also states that while the games will look largely the same, their controls will be more in line with what players are familiar with from Grand Theft Auto 4 and GTA 5 – something which Rockstar themselves have seem to accidentally confirmed.

GTA Trilogy Will Have GTA 5 Shooting Controls

One of the hardest things about going back and playing Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is the games’ outdated shooting mechanics. The 3D GTA series didn’t really figure out a good way to handle shooting until the release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Rockstar continued to refine the controls for both GTA 4 and GTA 5. A Rockstar Games internal development article (once again shared by GTAForums member alloc8tor) shows the company knows this is one of the weakest parts of their series, and is planning on addressing the issue. Three iconic cities, three epic stories. Play the genre-defining classics of the original Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas updated for a new generation, now with across-the-board enhancements including brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more, bringing these beloved worlds to life with all new levels of detail.

Having shooting controls like in Grand Theft Auto 5 will be great for both first-time Grand Theft Auto 3 players or people who are returning after twenty years away. Claude was notorious for swinging his arm wildly around his body as GTA 3 attempted to determine who the nearest threat was, but having the updated shooting of GTA 5 will likely make for a far more tolerable (if not as unintentionally hilarious) experience. This statement also seems to corroborate previous Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition leaks which mentioned upgraded lighting effects, but until an official announcement is made everything in this article should be taken as speculation, not fact.
