Hermione Granger might not be the main character of the Harry Potter series, but she is one of the most important ones. In many ways, it would have made just as much if not more sense if she had been the protagonist given how smart, powerful, and skilled she was at magic, not to mention hard working.

Hermione saved both Harry and Ron, as well as many other people, multiple times throughout the series because of her intelligence, studiousness, and quick thinking. Here are ten times she helped save the trio.

10 She saved Harry from Nagini

There are so many times during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where Hermione saves Harry from danger. After Ron leaves them, this is even more true as she’s the only one left to help Harry and have his back.

When Harry decides to visit Godric’s Hollow, despite Hermione not thinking it’s a good idea, she ends up being the one to save Harry when Nagini reveals herself.

9 Discovering that the Chamber of Secrets monster was a basilisk

While Hermione might be petrified during the end of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, she’s really the one who ends up saving Ron and Harry as well as the rest of the school.

Without her research and learning that the Heir of Slytherin’s monster was a basilisk, Harry and Ron wouldn’t have known what they were facing.

8 Saving Harry and Ron from the Devil’s Snare

Hermione starts saving others around her from a very young age. All of the members of the trio have times where they have to rescue the others, but Hermione is often saving the other two because of her knowledge of magic.

When these three have to go through the obstacles to get to the Sorcerer’s Stone, they wouldn’t even have made it far at all if Hermione didn’t know how to defeat the Devil’s Snare.

7 When she put together Dumbledore’s Army

While Harry might have taught Dumbeldore’s Army because he was particularly skilled at Defense Against the Dark Arts and had the most experience, it was Hermione’s idea to begin the organization.

While this might not have directly saved the trio, it did indirectly. Without Dumbledore’s Army, they wouldn’t have been able to practice how to defend themselves or taught their fellow students how to defend themselves.

6 She helped save Harry from the dragon during the first task

While there were two notable times when Ron abandoned Harry, Hermione never did. When Harry was named as a Hogwarts champion, Ron’s jealousy got the better of him, and he stopped being friends with Harry.

This left Hermione to help Harry figure out how to survive the dragons of the First Task. Without her help with learning the Accio spell, Harry likely wouldn’t have been able to make it onto the Second Task.

5 When she used the time turner to help save Sirius

Without Hermione, Harry wouldn’t have been able to save Sirius and Buckbeak. Not only did she help with every single step of the process, but she was also vital because she had the Time Turner.

She knew how to use this device and just how important it was to not be seen by anyone even their own past selves.

4 She concealed Harry’s identity from Bellatrix

When Harry, Ron, and Hermione are captured by the Snatchers and brought to Malfoy Manor, Hermione saves Harry’s life once again by casting a curse on him to change his appearance. By using the Stinging Jing, Harry appeared swollen and unrecognizable.

Without doing so, Bellatrix would have been able to recognize Harry right away. This was quick-thinking work on her part.

3 She got Harry through the logic puzzle to the Sorcerer’s Stone

While Hermione’s help getting past the Devil’s Snare plant was absolutely important, perhaps even more important was when she solved the logic puzzle of the potions Snape had left.

Without her ability to use her intellect, Harry wouldn’t have been able to save the stone from Voldemort, and they could also have been stuck in that room.

2 When she had the supplies ready for the Horcrux hunt

While Harry might have decided at the end of his sixth year of school to go after the Horcruxes, he didn’t actually put any effort into preparing.

Even Ron came up with a way to convince the rest of the world why he wasn’t at Hogwarts, but he didn’t prepare for the journey ahead either. Without Hermione, the trio wouldn’t have been prepared at all. She was the one who packed all of the supplies and had a plan ready.

1 She set up all the protective charms around their campsites

There are so many times in Deathly Hallows where Hermione is the true hero. She does a lot of the hard work and keeps the three of them safe.

While she was first prepared with the necessary supplies such as a tent, she also had the magical ability and preparation that was needed. She was the one who put up magical enchantments and protective spells around their campsite, and without this, they would have been found by Death Eaters.
