The Academy: The First Riddle – from developer Pine Studios – is an upcoming puzzle adventure that fans of Harry Potter and Professor Layton will want to be sure to take note of, as the game draws much of its inspiration from those franchises (while looking very similar to The Sims 4 franchise in terms of overall character design).

It was announced today that The Academy: The First Riddle will be released on June 19th for PC via Steam, as well as on iOS and Android devices. The game is also slated to make its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch sometime later this summer.

To celebrate the announcement, a new trailer was released showcasing in-game footage and the mystery and magic that players can expect to encounter.

The Academy: The First Riddle will put players in the role of Sam, who is starting his freshman year at Arbor’s famed, yet mysterious, Academy. While there, he’ll meet other students while coming across over 200 puzzles and riddles to be solved as he explores the campus and tries to unravel the mystery surrounding the school’s past. It sounds like side quests and mini-games will also be part of the fun.

The Academy: The First Riddle will come with over 20 hours of gameplay, which is quite a bit of content for its listing price of $19.99.

Pine Studio’s Boris Barbir had this to say of the game’s upcoming release:

“We’re huge fans of the Professor Layton series and its colorful puzzles. We wanted to make a game that would allow players on all platforms to experience that thrill of getting a puzzle just right. We are big fans of Harry Potter, so the school is greatly inspired by Hogwarts, but it’s also inspired by the architecture of our city, Zagreb. Early on in development, it became clear that what we actually set off to achieve was to capture the essence of being a kid – the feeling that adventure lies around every corner.”
