The newest addition to Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is an ambitious one, finally giving you the chance to take on some of the most infamous characters in the Adversaries update. The ability to duel the most dangerous individuals from the Potter universe has been a long-time coming, and you will not be disappointed.
Adversaries denotes a brand-new type of encounter that is similar in concept to the Fortress. You begin against one opponent, but then progress into a chain of more and more difficult content. Reaching the final opponent is where things get interesting, as only the worst of the worst remain: Slytherin’s Basilisk, Bellatrix Lestrange, Draco Malfoy, and others are all possibilities, so you will need to come prepared for a fight.
In each encounter, you will regain health after defeating each opponent. However, any loses will result in failing the overall encounter, so you need to be prepared for a gauntlet-style of play. Adversaries can be seen anywhere on the map, and they are not difficult to find. Like most other in-game events, you simply need to walk in range of the event and tap it on your screen to begin.
Adversaries encounters are divided into two main types: Feared and Lethal. Feared Adversaries include characters that are certainly dangerous, but less powerful than others. Draco Malfoy and Peter Pettigrew are two examples of the final challenges faced in these encounters.
Lethal Adversaries feature opponents that are far more experienced in magic, including Bellatrix Lestrange and Dolores Umbridge. While Feared Adversaries will be easy to locate across the map, Lethal Adversaries can only be triggered during specific monthly events. These will be gradually introduced to the game, and with them, the pool of more dangerous opponents will also grow.
While the challenge may be great, so too are the rewards. Defeating villains throughout the chain of combat will provide incremental rewards, with a far larger pile of loot awarded if you complete the entire encounter. Rewards are fairly standard, featuring Wizarding XP, Challenge XP, and Defense Against the Dark Arts Books. Be sure to check in on your witch or wizard often, as the most dangerous of opponents will gradually be added to the game!
