Sword and Shield players frustrated by Isle of Armor’s Diglett challenge have been discovering an unexpected advantage to undertaking the task.

Eight months on from the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield and the games are on track to become the third fastest-selling titles in Pokémon history. Deservedly so as despite the limited Pokédex, which caused quite a stir in 2019, the Galar-based games are pretty terrific. Plus, more than 200 Pokémon were added to Sword and Shield this month via the Isle of Armor expansion.

It’s not just extra Pokémon that come with the DLC either. There’s a whole new island to explore, as implied by the name, and challenges to complete. While some trainers have complained that the expansion’s additional tasks didn’t take long enough to complete, there’s one, in particular, that has been frustrating players.

The Diglett challenge. For anyone who hasn’t yet ventured onto the Isle of Armor, one challenge tasks trainers with hunting down all 150 Diglett in the area. One of the reasons it is so challenging is due to the fact some of those Diglett are in their Alolan form. That means the only way to find them is by spotting the three strands of hair on top of their heads sticking out of the ground.

Trainers have been walking and cycling around staring intently at the ground when trying to find the last few Diglett. Frustrating, but turns out it comes with an unexpected bonus. Trainers trying to complete the challenge have been finding more shinies than usual, as is demonstrated in the clip above. The trainer is so invested in finding a regular old Diglett that they basically fall over an elusive Shiny Shinx.

There have been multiple reports of this happening since the DLC dropped, so anyone who has given up on finding all 150 Diglett might want to give the challenge another go. Even if you can’t find them all, it seems as if you might come across a Shiny Pokémon or two in the process. As for trainers who have already completed everything the Isle of Armor has to offer, they’ll have to wait for the Crown Tundra DLC to drop this fall for more new Sword and Shield content.
