Tom Holland has finally confirmed that Jamie Foxx will be reprising his Electro role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film is building a lot of hype with its promise of bringing back so many characters from past Spidey films, though the studio and stars have kept a pretty tight lid so far on the details. Luckily, Holland has now confirmed at least one more major return.

Foxx first appeared as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014. He played a mild-mannered employee at Oscorp who turns into an electricity charged super-villain after an accident with genetically mutated eels. By the movie’s end, Electro had met his demise after battling Spider-Man in a power station, ending the villain’s reign of terror.

In a new interview with Total Film, Holland officially confirms the return of Foxx for Spider-Man: No Way Home. He goes on to talk about his excitement about Foxx and other actors from the original films returning, explaining “It means a lot to me. The first time you see Doc and the rest of the characters that come back, it’s so exciting – and it’s such a huge moment in cinematic history. It’s three generations coming together.” When asked whether he felt any added pressure with all the original actors on the No Way Home set, Holland replied:

“Everyone puts their trousers on in the same way in the morning. It was interesting having those guys come in because they have a certain ownership over Spider-Man in their own way, and… I’m talking about Alfred and Jamie and those guys. To see Alfred come in, and have to adapt and change to the way that the films are made, but also change director, and also [the fact that] I’m now Spider-Man. It was really interesting to see these actors adapt and change what they were doing to fit the modern era.”

Of course, Holland was careful to point out that he was only speaking about the officially confirmed returning actors like Alfred Molina and Foxx. While his words may also apply to rumored returning actors, Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield, he immediately shut down the idea, insisting that neither is returning for the film. However, it would not be the first time a Marvel star has misled the press to keep a film’s secrets under wraps.

In the end, the excitement for Spider-Man: No Way Home has already grown far beyond standard hype, which could prove problematic. The last time a Spider-Man film had this much hype (and promised so many villains) was Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, and in the end, fans and critics alike were somewhat disappointed with the resulting film. Here’s to hoping that all the stunt casting and multi-versal shenanigans are just icing on the cake of another solid film from director Jon Watts.
