Loki is coming back for a second season and the MCU series can go literally anywhere thanks to the introduction of the multiverse. But there are some comic book storylines that the first season may have teed up for the future of the series, based on the cataclysmic events of the season finale.

Loki’s future likely involves not just the God of Mischief, but Sylvie, the Time Variance Authority, and the emerging threat of the variants of He Who Remains. All of these promise a riveting second season that is likely to draw on the deep lore of Marvel Comics in the same way the first season did.

10 Bleeding Neon

Loki’s timeline-shattering conclusion clearly sets up Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (among other probable MCU movies and series). “Bleeding Neon” is a storyline from 2015 in the Doctor Strange comics that could build off of that. In the story, Loki teams up with both Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch – who will appear in the movie – to fight their way out of a demonic casino. It sounds like the perfect setup for an alternate timeline for the series to visit in the show, and it would make sense that Doctor Strange and even Wanda could appear in season two.

9 Time Of Her Life

The Time Variance Authority may become even more aggressive with its new leadership in season two, which may lead to connections with other MCU series. “Time Of Her Life” is a 2006 storyline from She-Hulk comics that sees the TVA put Jennifer Walters on trial for trying to warn Hawkeye of his eventual death in Avengers Disassembled.

A variant of Hawkeye actually serves on the jury in the story. Given the intersections between upcoming Disney+ series involving all the characters, this is definitely a comic storyline that could see fruition in the She-Hulk MCU series or perhaps season two of Loki.

8 Captain Carter (Live-Action)

Peggy Carter appeared as Captain America in Exiles #3 from 2018, a comic storyline about the multiverse that could appear next season. In fact, she may have already appeared in Loki. A woman who looks a lot like Peggy Carter was spotted in the halls of the TVA back in episode one of the series.

The Captain Carter version of Peggy Carter will feature in an episode of the What If..? animated series, and Tom Hiddleston is on the record saying What If..? sets up things in the MCU. If that’s the case, then it’s easy to imagine this variant of Peggy Carter playing some role in the multiversal war that will likely emerge in season two of the series.

The storyline from Thor #363-365 is already a comic book storyline that inspired Loki and there could be more next season. One of the absolute best Easter eggs in the Loki series is the frog version of Thor from episode five. Now the door is open for one of the strangest versions of the God of Thunder to make an encore in season two.

In the comic book storyline, Loki turns Thor into a frog, which could happen in one of the realities that Loki visits in the show next season. Another possibility is an appearance by the second version of Throg, Simon Walterson, who appeared in the comics in 2017.

6 Double Trouble

Comic book fans know that Lady Loki was an inspiration for the character of Sylvie on the show. But the Lady Loki of the comics is different, which could allow for the Double Trouble comic book to factor into season two. In the comics, Loki teams up with Thor and Jane Foster Thor in an adventure that eventually leads them into conflict with Lady Loki. In this version of reality, she is Loki’s consciousness in Lady Sif’s body, which could add an extra layer of complication in the MCU if this Lady Loki shows up.

5 Illuminati

A conflict between variants of Sylvie could play out in season two, as it did in the Illuminati comic book storyline from 2015. There are actually two versions of the Enchantress from the comics, Sylvie Lushton and the first version, Amora. In this story, Sylvie, who gained her magical powers from Loki, is banished from Earth by Amora for stealing her name. It’s very possible in the MCU that Sylvie encounters variants of herself closer to Amora in the multiverse, leading to a conflict with them in season two.

4 Romance With Ravonna

Ravonna Renslayer plays an outsize role in the history of Kang The Conqueror in the comics, and it’s likely the same will play out in the MCU. The story of their fateful first meeting, in Avengers #23 and #24, is likely to inform the next chapter in Ravonna’s MCU destiny. She has gone in search of the person in charge of the TVA, but she is likely to find one of the variants of He Who Remains. While the circumstances are very different from the comics, the core storyline will probably play out in the show.

3 The Terminatrix Objective

Comic book fans know Ravonna Renslayer has a tragic, complex history with Kang The Conqueror. That led to a possible storyline that could inspire season two – “The Terminatrix Objective.” In this story, Ravonna seeks revenge against Kang for abandoning her.

Ravonna’s motives and backstory in the MCU are different, but the story of her seeking revenge is intriguing because she is likely to be unhappy with what she discovers on her journey. If she feels cheated out of her life, or disillusioned, she could turn on her boss.

2 The Once And Future Kang

The series introduced He Who Remains in the season finale, and many comic book fans have guessed that this is the Marvel supervillain Kang The Conqueror. It’s very likely a variant of He Who Remains is the antagonist next season, or several, which could lead to “The Once And Future Kang.” This storyline ran through Avengers #262-269 and introduced the concept of the Council Of Cross-Time Kangs. This body of Kangs from across the multiverse tried to impose order in the chaos Kang creates, much as He Who Remains did.

1 Young Avengers

With the introduction of Sylvie and Kid Loki, both members of the Young Avengers in the comics, it’s possible this team plays a role in season two. Another major factor is that the team was brought together by Iron Lad, one of the most powerful variants of Kang from the comics. While the circumstances are likely to be different, it’s possible the origin of this team plays out next season, especially as another member, America Chavez, is due to be introduced in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.
