Martin Freeman plays Arthur Dent who discovers that his house is about to be demolished to make way for a bypass. His friend Ford Prefect takes him to a bar to comfort him and reveals that he is an alien and that Earth is about to be destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass. Ford manages to save Arthur and they begin their travels across the galaxy.
