10 The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005) – 6.8

If your heart has been longing for a science-fiction comedy about great space adventures, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy might just be what you are looking for. Initially, it was a radio broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1978 which was then adapted into stage shows, novels, comic books, a TV series, a videogame, and this 2005 film.

Martin Freeman plays Arthur Dent who discovers that his house is about to be demolished to make way for a bypass. His friend Ford Prefect takes him to a bar to comfort him and reveals that he is an alien and that Earth is about to be destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass. Ford manages to save Arthur and they begin their travels across the galaxy.

9 The World’s End (2013) – 7.0

Edgar Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy is famous for its unique humor – much like Wright’s work as a whole. The World’s End is the third and final installment with Freeman playing the role of Oliver “O-Man” Chamberlain.

The story follows Gary King, a forty-year-old alcoholic who gathers his group of childhood friends to complete the “Golden Mile” which consists of twelve pubs and ends with “The World’s End” pub. While at it, they discover a plot to replace all the humans with androids.

Hot Fuzz is the second film in Edgar Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. Martin Freeman only had a small cameo role in it, but it was still very memorable. The scene shows Freeman’s character promoting Simon Pegg’s character to Sergeant.
