In the world of drug trafficking, violence reigns supreme and such was the case in the Netflix series Narcos and its companion series Narcos: Mexico. Both shows—which are based on true stories—explore events that occurred parallel to each other in the ’80s and ’90s. A couple of characters (including Escobar) even appear in some capacity on both shows.

There have been hundreds of deaths on the shows. There are even more to come since Narcos: Mexico still has plenty of ground to cover in the Mexican drug trade. Most of the deaths have come as a result of brutal killings, but which ones have been the most intriguing and brutal ones so far? Here is a ranking of well-executed kills on Narcos.

The death of Escobar’s cousin Gustavo Gaviria hit the drug kingpin hard. He even began having hallucinations about him. The two had grown up together, so Escobar considered him his closest friend.

When Gaviria began having an affair with the sister of the Ochoa brothers, they didn’t like it. They thus revealed Gaviria’s location to Search Bloc who captured him and went ahead to torture him for information. Gaviria didn’t break so the officers beat him to a bloody pulp. To make sure he was dead, Colonel Carillo fired five bullets at him.

9 Felix Bludgeons Nava With A Cigarette Tray

Salvador Osuna Nava was the rude Director-General of the DFS and associate of the Gudalajara cartel in Narcos: Mexico. He often exhibited feelings of disdain towards Felix and kept demanding an increase to his cut.

Felix finally had enough of Nava’s nagging ways when he insulted him as the two were arguing to an elevator. The cartel boss took a cigarette tray and repeatedly used it to bash Nava’s head until he died. All this happened as Azul helplessly looked on.

In the sixth episode of Season One titled “Explosivos,” an army of Search Bloc officers were accompanied by the DEA’s Agent Pena as they raided the home of Medellin cartel member José Gacha, aka El Mexicano. He put up a brave fight and kept them off for a while with a variety of advanced weapons. He eventually tried to flee the compound with his son using a Chevy truck.

As Pena and the officers pursued them with a chopper. they kept firing, fatally injuring Gacha’s son in the process. Angry, Gacha got out of the car and began shooting at the chopper. Unperturbed by the trafficker’s antics, Pena ordered an officer to “give him lead.”

There was another Pablo in Narcos: Mexico. His names was Pablo Acosta and he was becoming unsatisfied with the way Félix Gallardo was running the Guadalajara cartel. He thus chose to quit the game and settle down with his lover Mimi Webb Miller.

He also began exposing the cartel’s political connections to the American media. His choice of hideout was his home town of Ojinaga where he was a hero but the FBI and FDR finally found him. While DEA agent Walt Breslin tried to bring him in so as to place him in a witness protection program, he figured he wasn’t cut out for that boring life. He threw Breslin aside and began firing at the authorities. They returned fire, leaving him dead.

Cololombia’s Vice Minister of Justice Rodrigo Lara Bonira was a man of high morals who couldn’t stand Escobar. When the drug trafficker declared his intention to run for political office, Rodrigo exposed him and his activities in parliament.


The government knew Escobar would come after the minister so in order to protect him, the president gave him a new job as an ambassador in Europe. Sadly, Escobar’s men caught up with him before he could leave. Two men on a motorcycle rode close to his car on the highway and sprayed bullets at him. The scene was brilliant because it was shown in alternation with another scene where an angry Escobar was addressing a crowd and promising to fight back against his enemies.

Search Block boss Colonel Carillo quickly grew to be fan-favorite character, thanks to his ability to constantly frustrate Escobar. Carillo had no fear for the notorious drug lord and often threatened him. He even gave a bullet to a kid to take to Escobar as a promise that he’ll kill him one day.

The cut and mouse games continued until Escobar finally got the upper hand. In the fourth episode of Season 2 titled “The Good, The Bad & The Dead,” Carillo was tipped off about a planned meeting between Escobar and his accountant at a hidden Medellin building. It turned out to be a lie. When Carillo and his men got there, they were ambushed. All of Carillo’s men were killed before Escobar showed up. What made the scene iconic was that Escobar took the bullet Carillo had sent him, put it in his gun and used it to kill him.

Claudio was an associate of the Cali cartel, though he was often seen as a threat. In Season 3’s premiere episode, he attended a Cali party. Pacho offered him a wine bottle. But before Claudio could take it, Pacho smashed the bottle on his head.

He then had him chained to two bikes which began speeding in opposite directions. As a result of the force, his body tore into two parts. His body was then thrown into a river.

3 The Lion Gets Strangled With A Garrote Wire

The Lion aka “El Lion” was the head of the Medellin cartel’s Miami operations. When Escobar summoned him to Medellin from a meeting, he was kidnapped by the Cali Cartel who persuaded him to join their organization.

The Lion would eventually introduce all his Miami contacts to Pacho Herrera and teach him all about doing business in the United States. As soon as Pacho learned everything, he ordered his henchman Naveganted to strangle Lion, something he did quite gleefully.

2 DEA Agent Kiki Camarena Pays For Going Too Hard On The Cartel

In the late stages of Narcos: Mexico, ambitious DEA agent Kiki Camerana was finally murdered after being tortured for several days. Kiki had relentlessly gone after Felix and his men. He was so keen on Felix knowing his name that he even confronted him in a street.

Things didn’t end well for Kiki as he was kidnapped by Tomas Morlet on the orders of Azul, Rafa and Mr. X. He was tortured for information but didn’t give any. He was then electrocuted and had his hand drilled using a power drill. After succumbing to his injuries, he was dumped in a ditch.

1 Rooftop Shootout Leaves Escobar Dead

The most brutal kill of them all was that of Pablo Escobar. After being on the run for a long time, the law finally caught up with him. Escobar made the mistake of communicating with his family during his 44th birthday. This enabled the Search Bloc to triangulate his location in Medellin.

As he spoke with his wife, he was ambushed by authorities. His only remaining henchman was gunned down in the shootout. Escobar kept firing back shots as he attempted to flee through the roof. He didn’t manage to do so. He was gunned down, marking the end of an era. The DEA and Colombian authorities then posed for pictures next to his body.
