Nintendo has released another Metroid Dread report, alongside a brand new trailer that hints at the game’s story.
The latest Metroid Dread report is focused on Samus’ abilities, discussing all the bounty hunter’s main weapons and powers, from the returning melee counter to the Phantom Cloak. Some of the abilities shown in previous gameplay videos are revealed to be called Aeion Abilities, such as the aforementioned cloaking ability.
On this new ability, the description reads, “Samus can tap into a special, mystical energy called Aeion to temporarily use certain abilities. One such ability is Phantom Cloak, which blankets her in an optical camouflage to render her invisible. Using this while standing still will slowly deplete her reserve of Aeion Energy—she can also move while camouflaged, but it costs a greater amount of Aeion Energy. When not in use, her reserve automatically regenerates over time.”
Samus’ new outfit is also detailed in the blog post. “The Power Suit that Samus wears is based on Chozo technology and was created specifically for her. Incorporating ability upgrades can expand the functionality of the Power Suit’s performance and the Arm Cannon’s functions. In addition to the Power Suit’s built-in defenses, Samus can increase its Energy—and thus its capacity to withstand damage—by acquiring two kinds of Energy Tank items. Standard Energy Tanks increase her suit’s Energy by 100 each. She can also collect four Energy Parts to reconstruct the same functionality as a standard Energy Tank.”
Alongside the new Dread report, Nintendo also released a new trailer for Dread, that recaps some of the story from previous games and starts to introduce themes and threads that will be looked at in Dread. The trailer shows that the E.M.M.I went to investigate a mysterious Parasite X, before disappearing completely. Samus goes to investigate, which will eventually lead her to find the E.M.M.I, although in a much less friendly state. The final shot of the trailer shows Samus landing on the planet, already in her new suit.
