Pokémon is a series that has been going on since the ’90s. It has followed Ash and his various groups of friends around numerous regions and through numerous Pokémon encounters. It’s not surprising that long term fans of the series won’t to ship some of the characters. Due to the large cast of the show, this has led to a lot of famously good and famously bad ships.

From ships that make no sense at all like Pikachu marrying Meowth to who Ash will end up settling down with, there are a lot of debates among fans. Below are five of the best fan shippings and five that probably shouldn’t ever happen.

10 Work: Misty & Ash

One of the earliest ships in the whole series revolved around the main characters Ash and Misty who went adventuring together through Kanto. The two trainers joined forces after Ash borrowed and destroyed Misty’s bike while he was trying to save Pikachu from a group of Spearows.

Many older fans still think that later in the series, the two trainers will end up getting together in their older years. While Misty does have some competition now that Ash has traveled so far it would be a sweet ending to the series.

9 Don’t: Ash & Lillie

One of the newer ships comes from the series based on Sun and Moon. The series features Lillie, the young trainer who carries Cosmog in her bag meeting Ash. Fans who have watched the Alola seasons have noted a few moments that may point to the two becoming a couple.

While there have been some small instances, nothing substantial happened between the two like it did with both Serena and Misty. This ship will likely never happen and will be glossed over by fans in the newer seasons.

8 Work: Oak & Delia

Pokémon 5 Fan Relationships That Make A Lot Of Sense (& 5 That Dont)

One of the most popular fan theories out there is that Professor Oak and Delia, Ash’s mom, are in a relationship. The two are almost always seen together and even go on vacation together which seems rather suspect to most fans of the anime.

Oak probably isn’t the father of Ash, but it isn’t impossible that Delia moved on after her husband left home. It would even make sense that Delia as an adult would seek out a relationship after her only son left town.

7 Don’t: Ash & Gary

Pokémon 5 Fan Relationships That Make A Lot Of Sense (& 5 That Dont)

Gary is Ash’s rival that appeared in the very first episode of the show. Gary is stuck up, constantly surrounded by women, and is nothing but rude to other trainers. Gary is pretty much one of the most annoying and disliked characters in the entirety of the series.

The fact that some fans want Ash and Gary together is a bit strange to the rest of the community. Gary is downright abusive to Ash at times and the two never really seem to be able to get along for long periods of time.

6 Work: Jesse & James

Pokémon 5 Fan Relationships That Make A Lot Of Sense (& 5 That Dont)

Jesse and James are two of the characters that have been around in the series for just about as long as Ash. They are the antagonists who want to capture powerful Pokémon and have become obsessed with the series mascot Pikachu.

Despite Jesse and James being wanted criminals they are always shown supporting each other and even have a soft side when needed. The two have spent years together so it would only make sense that they have developed romantic feelings for one another.

5 Don’t: Drew & May

Pokémon 5 Fan Relationships That Make A Lot Of Sense (& 5 That Dont)

May appears during the Hoenn arc of the series and is a young girl that loves competing in contests. While trying to compete she meets Drew who tends to remind many viewers of Gary Oak who like mentioned above is a disliked character.

Drew is rude to May many times but does tend to occasionally help her out leading some fans to believe that the two should end up together. This ship is a little unfounded as Drew doesn’t really seem like the type of partner someone like May would want.

4 Work: Ash & Serena

Pokémon 5 Fan Relationships That Make A Lot Of Sense (& 5 That Dont)

Serena appeared in the Kalos arc of the anime and was revealed to be a childhood friend of Ash. This led many fans to speculate that the Kalos arc would retire Ash so that he could go off and start a life with Serena at the end.

Aside from Misty, Serena looks like the most likely candidate to be a love interest for Ash at the end of the series. While Serena and Ash have currently parted way it wouldn’t be surprising for her to appear in later episodes of the series.

3 Don’t: Brock & Nurse Joy

Pokémon 5 Fan Relationships That Make A Lot Of Sense (& 5 That Dont)

One of the strangest fan ships involves Brock and Nurse Joy. Brock literally hits on just about every woman he see’s especially if it’s one of the many Nurse Joys scattered around the world. This is a bit creepy and makes him seem more than a little bit desperate.

Brock is meant to be comedic relief, but when you really think about it, most females in the real world would end up completely hating him. While fans do hope to see Brock settle down, Nurse Joy is not the right choice.

2 Work: Lucy & Brock

Pokémon 5 Fan Relationships That Make A Lot Of Sense (& 5 That Dont)

If you are a fan of Brock though, then you should know that all hope is not lost as Lucy from the Battle Frontier seems to be interested in him. Lucy has a home filled with Pokémon that resembles Brock and seems to actually have a crush on the character.

Both Brock and Lucy share a love for caring for their partners which would make them a great pair. Brock and Lucy also share similar positions as leaders in the Pokémon world so they would likely understand one another struggles.

1 Don’t: Zoey & Dawn

Pokémon 5 Fan Relationships That Make A Lot Of Sense (& 5 That Dont)

Another strange fan theory is with Zoey and Dawn, Ash’s partner from the Sinnoh arc. The two are certainly good friends, but it doesn’t look like Dawn is interested in traveling with Zoey, much to fans disappointment.

Zoey helped Dawn during competitions and even faced off against her and won in the end. During the duo’s final interaction, Zoey invited Dawn to come with her and Dawn decided to reject her offer.
