Pokemon GO’s main event this month will obviously be GO Fest 2020, but that isn’t the only thing that will be keeping trainers busy throughout July. In addition to the three week’s worth of free challenges that players are participating in leading up to GO Fest, there will still be a usual Community Day event, as well.

Continue the trend of the last few months, the Ghastly Community Day event is going to feature a Special Research opportunity with some extra tasks to complete and rewards to earn. This seems to be becoming a new trend and is an interesting way for Niantic to make some extra money off of each of the monthly Pokemon GO spotlight events without actually charging admission to the main highlight of the weekend.

As always, be sure to keep in mind that all of the following information was found through datamines and has not been officially confirmed by Niantic at this point. That means that the event details, tasks, and rewards could definitely change before the event actually goes live.

The datamined code went on to outline all of Professor Willow’s text for the quest, but that includes some major spoilers for anyone who enjoys some surprises along the way when the event actually arrives. The July Ghastly Community Day, which was decided thanks to a community vote, is scheduled to arrive July 19. Unlike Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which has been sticking with 24 hour Community Day events, the PoGO event will span six hours.

In the months since the first paid Special Research event took place, the events have become increasingly popular and now it seems that there will always be at least one per month that accompanies the Community Day event. It’s an interesting strategy and seems to be a great way to get players to commit a few real world dollars without a major commitment. The nice thing about the Special Research events is that deciding not to take part in them doesn’t really hold other players back from any major rewards or bonuses. There’s definitely a benefit to participating, but it’s not like players who don’t pay up are being locked out of a new Pokedex entry or anything like that.

As trainers continue working through all of these amazing events, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
