Pokemon GO First Look At New Galar Forms for Throwback Special Research

Pokemon GO’s massive Throwback 2020 chain of special research tasks and challenges are nearing an end, which means it is almost time for some of the most exciting reward encounters and spawns to arrive. As promised, the Throwback Challenge Champion 2020 Special Research Event that is coming June 3 will introduce a handful of brand new Galar region forms to the mobile AR game.

The upcoming Special Research Event is the grand finale of the month long Throwback 2020 Challenge series and is expected to offer Pokemon GO trainers some very exciting incentives to pick up a ticket and participate. The latest update to the game’s assets seems to have added the final files necessary to introduce a series of new Galar region Pokemon who originally appeared in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.

This information comes as a result of dataming, so, as always, keep in mind that it has not been officially released yet and is subject to change. That said, the assets added include regular and shiny variants for a great lineup of Galar forms that are currently missing from Pokemon GO. The inclusion of the shiny variants does not necessarily mean that those will be released during the event, as well.

The new list of Pokemon with Galar forms incoming includes Meowth, Ponyta, Rapidash, Slowpoke, Farfetch’d, Zigzagoon, Obstagoon, Darumaka, and Darmanitan. Rapidash was one of the most popular Galar forms when Shield and Sword released, so it seems likely that PoGO players will definitely be on the hunt to add that one to their collections, as well.

For now, players may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
