Pokemon GO developers have added mini-events to the game to give players more to do between community days and larger-scale events. One of these mini-events is named Spotlight Hour, in which a certain Pokemon will have an increased spawn rate everywhere. The first Spotlight Hour event is being held today, on February 4th, between the hours of 6 PM and 7 PM, local time and will feature Onix.

Onix doesn’t appear to have any special abilities or moves but is a useful Pokemon in battles. Onix is a rock and ground type Pokemon and evolves into the steel and ground type Pokemon Steelix. Many trainers utilize Steelix in high-ranking Pokemon battles because of its abilities and strong resistance. Onix also has a slightly increased shiny rate than most Pokemon, which will make it easier for trainers to catch a shiny Onix during the Spotlight Hour event. Since the Pokemon GO Battle League has just started, trainers can use the Spotlight Hour to catch a great Pokemon for these battles.

February is set to be an exciting month for Pokemon GO. The introduction of the Battle League encourages players to try out ranked PVP battles. There are also events lined up for both Valentine’s Day and another Community Day later in the month. The Valentine’s Day event will feature lure bonuses and special Pokemon to catch. The Valentine’s Day event and the Community Day will be boosted by the introduction of more Sinnoh region Pokemon and more Shadow Pokemon appearing in the game starting February 7th.

The events in February seem to have a focus on Sinnoh region Pokemon and rock-type Pokemon. The Community day on February 22nd is centered around the powerful rock and ground type Pokemon, Rhyhorn. Rhyhorn is similar to Onix in that they are both the same type and have evolutions that are effective in PVP battles.

Trainers can also complete the research tasks that are available throughout February to earn rewards and encounters. If players are able to complete seven days of the research task, they will have a chance to catch the flying psychic Pokemon, Woobat. With all the events lined up, it seems trainers will be busy during the month of February. The announcement of mini-events is also very exciting because it could add a large volume of activities to keep players entertained.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
