The Celebi Special Research quest is finally live in Pokemon GO, and it tasks players with completing a number of challenges if they want to add the mythical Pokemon to their collection. Since Celebi is a dual psychic/grass-type Pokemon, it makes sense that some of the challenges involve other grass-type Pokemon.

There are a couple of different steps in the Celebi Special Research quest in Pokemon GO where players have to evolve an evolved grass-type Pokemon. In other words, this means evolving a second stage grass-type to a third stage, like evolving Ivysaur to Venusaur, for instance.

Unfortunately, it’s going to take a whopping 100 candy minimum to evolve a second stage grass-type to a third stage grass-type, so players may have to assign some to be their buddy to prepare. Here are all the second stage grass-type Pokemon that are currently available in Pokemon GO.

First Generation

  • Gloom
  • Ivysaur
  • Weepinbell

There are three possible first generation grass-type Pokemon players can evolve as part of the Celebi Special Research quest, but we recommend not evolving Gloom. That’s because a future step will actually have players use a Sun Stone to evolve Gloom into a Bellossom (or a Sunkern into a Sunflora), so it may be better to hang on to that Oddish candy instead of spending it here.

Second Generation

  • Bayleef
  • Skiploom

There are only two second generation Pokemon that fit the description, but luckily one of them has a Community Day event coming up. On September 22, Pokemon GO players will have plenty of Chikorita that they can add to their collection to then evolve into a Bayleef, which can then be evolved into a Meganium. Anyone struggling with this step will have their best opportunity to complete it on Chikorita Community Day, so fans should be sure to mark September 22 on their calendars.

Third Generation

  • Grovyle
  • Lombre
  • Nuzleaf

There are three possible third generation grass-type Pokemon that players can evolve to complete the requirement. For the past few months, Treecko has been hatching out of eggs at a fairly common rate, so evolving it into a Grovyle and then a Grovyle into a Sceptile could be the best way for players to complete this objective using a third generation Pokemon.

Now that players know all the evolved grass-type Pokemon they can evolve in Pokemon GO, they can start planning ahead for their Celebi Special Research tasks. For the most part, players should evolve whichever Pokemon they want, but again, we recommend staying away from Gloom as evolving it with a Sun Stone can be used for a future objective.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
