One of the greatest things the fifth generation of Pokémon games (the Black & White series) gave us was more Dark-types. Those who enjoy the idea of more sinister, brutal Pokémon can feel right at home with the likes of Hydreigon and Zoroark. There’s also Pawniard, a combination of chess piece and stabby Power Ranger. If that sounds like your kind of Pokémon, then read on for how to add it to your Pokémon Sword & Shield team.

Where To Find Pawniard In Sword & Shield

Pawniard can be found pretty frequently along Route 8 as an overworld spawn. However, they come at around level 40, which is late for an unevolved Pokémon. You may want to integrate it into your team earlier to train it up right.

To get a lower level Pawniard, you’ll need to check the Wild Area. Particularly, look around the Giant’s Cap, Giant’s Mirror, Motostoke Outskirts, Motostoke Riverbank, and Stony Wilderness zones. There it can be found during snowstorms around levels 26-30.

How To Evolve Pawniard Into Bisharp

Pawniard only evolves once, but its evolution is a top-tier combatant. Due to this, it evolves way later than most Pokémon. Pawniard will evolve into Bisharp at level 52.

If you’d rather wait and catch Bisharp on its own, check Giant’s Seat in the Wild Area. Bisharp can sometimes be found there as a high-level wandering spawn. It can also show up near the Lake of Outrage during a snowstorm.

Finally, check Dusty Bowl, Giant’s Mirror, Giant’s Seat, Hammerlocke Hills, Stony Wilderness, and West Lake Axewell for Bisharp Max Raid Battles.

What Bisharp Does In Battle

With all those blades, you know Bisharp brings the pain. It has a very high Attack stat and good Defense, too, making it a great physical brawler. This is complimented by its Defiant Ability, which raises Bisharp’s stats when they would be lowered. This makes Bisharp a great counter to foes who use the Intimidate Ability.

When it comes to attacks, keep it simple. That is, keep it to Bisharp’s Dark/Steel typing. Iron Head and Knock Off are solid moves to check those boxes. There’s also Sucker Punch to make up for Bisharp’s lacking Speed. For the fourth move, Swords Dance is often recommended to boost Bisharp’s power into “one-hit KO everything” territory. But you could also give it a Flying-type move like Aerial Ace to punish those Fighting-types Bisharp is weak to.
