New, first look images from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City show off Claire Redfield and the rest of the cast along with Umbrella test subject Lisa Trevor. Directed by Johannes Roberts, the upcoming reboot will serve as a total retooling of the film franchise after Paul W.S. Anderson’s six film series starring Milla Jovovich. The cast and crew have touted the latest Resident Evil as being very game accurate, from the way the cast looks to the plot of the film, which will adapt the first two games and be set in 1998.
Skins star Kaya Scodelario will appear as Claire Redfield, with Robbie Amell playing her older brother Chris, a member of STARS who is dispatched to investigate the mysterious Spencer mansion. When Chris and his team go missing, Claire goes after her brother and encounters horrors more terrifying than she could have imagined. Hannah John-Kamen will star as Jill Valentine, Chris’ partner, while Avan Jogia stars as Leon S. Kennedy, a RPD recruit who helps Claire search for her brother. Additionally, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will star Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, and Lily Gao as Ada Wong.
With the film set to be released later this year, Sony has revealed first look images from the film that show off the cast and the new design of an iconic Umbrella experiment. Scodelario and Jogia can be seen as Leon and Claire in one image, likely in the depths of Spencer mansion. Another image shows Albert Wesker, Brad Vickers, Jill Valentine, and Chris Redfield doing their own investigating inside the haunted manse. Finally, a third photo shows the haunting design of Umbrella experiment Lisa Trevor. Check out the images below:
The latest images from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City are a promising update from the highly anticipated film. While the Jovovich films were highly successful, earning over $1 billion at the box office altogether, many diehard fans of the games decried the fact that it didn’t accurately adapt the story that made the original video games so successful. All of that is set to change, though.
From the game-accurate character designs to the fact that the plot will adhere closely to the first two iconic entries in the franchise, Resident Evil: Raccoon City could become the definitive adaptation of the horror-survival games. Originally, the film was slated to be released in September, but Sony pushed the movie back into November and now audiences only have to wait just over two months to feast their eyes on all the horrors that await them.
