A believable rumor is making the rounds that details the story and villains of Spider-Man PS4’s sequel, which will be on PS5.

It seems as if the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man is already well into production, and according to a recent leak, the game will hit the PS5 some time in 2021. Not only that, but the leaker also claims to know a great deal of information about the plot, and what villains may appear this time around. Due to the nature of this info, prepare for some spoilers regarding the original game up ahead.
The Reddit source behind these leaks credits an anonymous employee at Insomniac Games, and while none of this information is confirmed, it all sounds very believable, even lining up with previous leaks. If the info ends up being legit, fans of the 2018 PS4 exclusive have plenty of reasons to be excited.
Supposedly, the sequel will once again take place in Manhattan, but this time it will be during the winter. Players will be given new areas of New York City to explore, including Queens and Brooklyn. The web-slinging mechanics will also be reworked, including new animations, the ability to “web-chain,” as well as three different modes: realistic, arcade, and hybrid.
The leaker also claims that three brand new villains will appear in the game: Venom, Carnage, and Mysterio. It sounds as if Insomniac planned to line things up with the movies a bit, waiting for Mysterio’s introduction within Spider-Man: Far From Home before bringing him to the game, and doing the same with Carnage and Venom, who are set to be the focal point of Venom 2, due out this October.
It also sounds like the game will be making a significant change to Spidey’s source material, which was first hinted at in the post-credits scene of the original. Instead of Eddie Brock, Peter Parker’s best friend, Harry Osborn, will become Venom this time around, and will be the game’s primary villain.
Finally, Miles Morales, who held a prominent role in the first game, will be a big part of the story once again. There’s a good chance we’ll see his black spider-suit in action as well, considering that the original ends with the character discovering his own set of powers.
Although none of this is official, it sounds like a very believable and exciting follow up to the original game and we wouldn’t be surprised if the information is eventually verified. What we do know for sure, is that a sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man is, in fact, happening one way or another, and hopefully we see it hit shelves before the end of 2021.
