Cassandra returns to the Soulcalibur series as the latest DLC character, and she seems to have gained electric superpowers.

The latest trailer from Bandai Namco has confirmed the last character to arrive for season one pass holders will be Cassandra, the younger sister of Sophitia. We haven’t seen Cassandra since Soulcalibur IV where she seemed to get sucked into the Astra Chaos while trying to save her sister, but now she’s back and seems to have gained some mysterious electrical powers.

She also uses her butt as an attack. A lot.

The trailer shows that Cassandra will be armed with her usual Owl Shield and the Omega Sword she took from Sophitia. Her costume seems to have changed to be a lot more like Sophitia’s than previous generations. While in earlier Soulcalibur games Cassandra had an outfit that used pink and purple to distinguish herself, in Soulcalibur VI she seems to have gained the gold and blue hues shared with Sophitia, albeit with a bit less white trim.

Whereas Sophitia’s moves have turned towards fast strikes with tons of air-juggling potential, Cassandra’s appear to be stronger, hit harder, but also have slower recovery making them less useful for stringing together combos. She’s also got an electric effect to many of her strikes that were never really there before. Cassandra’s power has always been in her self-assuredness and physical strength while Sophitia gains hers from faith in her deity, Hephaestus. Could it be that Cassandra has found faith in a Greek god of her own?

Zeus seems the likeliest candidate, given the whole lightning and thunder motif.

It might also help explain the plot of her own story mission. At the end of Soulcalibur IV, Cassandra was sucked into the Astral Chaos where she’s said to lose all her memories save for her overwhelming desire to help her sister. Perhaps it’s Zeus that got her out of the Astra Chaos and back on her quest.

Along with Cassandra’s trailer, Bandai Namco also announced a second season of DLC for Soulcalibur VI at the EVO 2019 grand finals. The second season will include Samurai Showdown’s primary protagonist Haohmaru as well as three other mystery characters.
