Developer Insomniac Games has put out an update for the PlayStation 4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, adding in three additional costumes as well as the ability to export save files to the game’s PS5 remaster. Marvel’s Spider-Man released for the PS4 back in 2018, and has since received an abundance of downloadable content and a short standalone sequel in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. A remaster of the game for PS5, including upgraded graphics and a newly redesigned Peter Parker, also released alongside Miles Morale.

Marvel’s Spider-Man was a massive success for developer Insomniac, with the game lauded as one of the greatest superhero video games of all time. Both gameplay and story were used to craft an authentic Spider-Man experience, bringing the hero and New York City to life. The game recently passed 20 million unit sales, according to PlayStation’s Global Marketing Leader David Bull. The decision to remaster the game was therefore a no-brainer, enhancing the game’s already breathtaking open world with the power of the PS5’s hardware. Insomniac also announced that the remaster would include some brand new content, including an all-new costume based on the one worn by Andrew Garfield in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man.

Today, Insomniac Games released an update for the original PS4 version of the game, adding in the three additional suits that they created for the remaster as well as an option to transfer save files to the superior PS5 version. The new suits are Andrew Garfield’s iconic movie suit, an Arachnid Rider suit based on the Japanese Kamen Rider franchise and a shiny white Armored Advanced suit. The update also adds in the option to export save files from the PS4 game, which can then be imported into the PS5 remaster.

Insomniac’s newest arachnid hero adventure, Spider-Man: Morales Miles, takes place within the same New York City as Marvel’s Spider-Man and its remaster. However, some minor yet notable changes have been made to the virtual version of the Big Apple. The iconic Chrysler Building is notable absent from the game, noticeably changing the city’s skyline. This unfortunate change was made due to the building recently receiving new owners, which lost Insomniac the rights to use the structure in-game. A more poignant change has been made to a street sign in Miles Morales, wherein Midtown’s 42nd Street has a sign reading “Boseman Way” between 1st and 3rd in a tribute to Chadwick Boseman, star of Black Panther and 42, who died suddenly earlier this year after a battle with colon cancer.

Insomniac’s Games has demonstrated a strong devotion to fans through their continued support of Marvel’s Spider-Man. The developer has put out many free updates for the game, adding new features and a large number of new costumes for free. Their support for the last-gen version of the game should come as a relief to fans who are unable to upgrade to the remastered version, and it ensures that every player gets the chance to be Spider-Man.
