For three years, from 22-19 BBY, the Clone Wars raged on in the Star Wars Galaxy. Fought between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the war brought about the destruction of the Jedi Order, the rise of the Sith and the Galactic Empire. It was chock full of action, tragedy, and many excellent action-packed battles, a lot of which can be seen in The Clone Wars.

There are a huge number of important battles that take place over the three-year span. From crucial victories for either side that halted momentum or saved planets to fights that had ramifications for essential characters, some battles proved to be vital points in the war.

10 Battle Of Geonosis

Star Wars 10 Of The Most Important Battles Of The Clone Wars

The First Battle of Geonosis was perhaps the best part of Attack Of The Clones, but it kicked off the entire Clone Wars conflict making it hugely important in the timeline of Galactic history.

The battle saw multiple Jedi deaths, but also a Republic victory as the Separatist Crisis ended, the occupation of Geonosis began, and the ‘Great Peace’ ended. The whole thing also revealed Count Dooku’s dark side allegiances, and the first piece of the Darth Sidious puzzle was revealed as Dooku confided the name with Obi-Wan.

9 Battle Of Christophsis/The Battle Of Teth

Both the Battle of Christophsis and the Battle of Teth were the central conflicts of The Clone Wars movie and two of the earliest battles of the war, taking place simultaneously.

On Christophsis, Republic Forces attempted and eventually succeeded in ending the Separatist invasion and blockade of the planet, taking away the Separatist’s strategic resources gained from the planet. Meanwhile, on Teth, Anakin and Ahsoka attempted to rescue and return Rotta the Hutt to Jabba, fending off Dooku and the Separatists. Both parties wanted the allegiance of Jabba to use the space lane routes through the outer rim, which could have given the Separatists a huge strategic advantage being easily able to travel between star systems undetected and unopposed.

8 Battle Of Abregado

Star Wars 10 Of The Most Important Battles Of The Clone Wars

The Battle of Abregado encompassed that battle alongside the Battle of the Ryndellia System, the Battle of the Kaliida Nebula, and the Battle near the Kaliida Nebula. All conflicts were the focus of the Malevolence arc in The Clone Wars.

Each battle had its important aspects, such as the duo of Anakin and Ahsoka rescuing Plo Koon. However, the whole focus of the four conflicts was to deal with Grievous’ secret weapon, the Malevolence. Had the Republic forces not managed to take down the Malevolence, the medical station on the Outer Rim would have been destroyed, and the subjugator-class ship would have continued to wreak havoc on the Galactic navy.

7 Battle Of Bothawui

Before the Battle of Bothuwai, the Separatists hugely weakened the Republic’s foothold in the Outer Rim and were on a streak of victories thanks to General Grievous.

Those victories turned out to be thanks to a secret listening post, Skytop Station, which detailed Republic movements for Grievous. The battle and subsequent missions saw Artoo go missing and rescued, a Separatist undercover droid, and finally, the destruction of Skytop Station, ending the Separatist momentum and helping keep control of the Outer Rim.

6 Battle Of Kamino

The Clone Wars’ characterization and development of the clones were beautiful and excellently done, which added much weight to the Battle of Kamino and the stakes involved.

The Separatists launched their attack hoping to destroy the cloning facilities in Tipoca City, which would have halted the growth of the army as well as take out the many clones defending the planet. Grievous and Ventress, who led the assault, were eventually forced back. However, it was worrying that the Separatists had access to such an important Republic stronghold, proving the existence of intelligence leaks.

5 Battle Of Lola Sayu

Star Wars 10 Of The Most Important Battles Of The Clone Wars

The Battle of Lola Sayu was the main component of an important and arguably underrated story arc in The Clone Wars, the Citadel arc, which focused around the rescue of Jedi Master Even Piell.

Led by Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and the Padawan Ahsoka Tano who snuck on the mission, a small Republic task force infiltrated the Citadel and rescued Piell and Tarkin. The importance of the two was that they had coordinates for the Nexus Route, a hyperspace route that stretched between the hearts of both the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. After a battle with Separatist forces and multiple roadblocks, as well as the deaths of Piell and the apparent death of Echo, the Republic forces eventually escaped with Ahsoka Tano and Tarkin with knowledge of the Nexus Route coordinates. Funnily enough, though, Tarkin refused to divulge his knowledge to anyone but Supreme Chancellor Palpatine alone, the puppet master of the whole war.

4 Battle Of Umbara

Star Wars 10 Of The Most Important Battles Of The Clone Wars

The Battle of Umbara is one of the most famous of the Clone Wars, largely due to how incredible the arc is in The Clone Wars, one of the show’s very best.

The battle began after Umbara withdrew from the Republic, coming at a time when the Separatists were tightening supply routes. However, that was not the only significant part of the battle, as it also revealed the betrayal and true intentions of Jedi Master Pong Krell, who sought to be Count Dooku’s new apprentice. The Republic was victorious, Umbara was recaptured, Krell was arrested, and various clones learned harsh truths of individuality and taking orders.

3 Battle Of Coruscant

Star Wars 10 Of The Most Important Battles Of The Clone Wars

One of the final battles of the Clone Wars opened Revenge Of The Sith as Republic and Separatist forces did battle above the planet, and Anakin and Obi-Wan went on a mission to rescue the Chancellor from the grasp of Grievous and Dooku.

This battle was hugely important. It was a crucial step in Anakin becoming Palpatine’s apprentice as Anakin kills Dooku, which meant half of the Separatist leadership was destroyed. The battle is not only one of the best in the prequel trilogy but an important one in the final days of the war.

2 Siege Of Mandalore

Star Wars 10 Of The Most Important Battles Of The Clone Wars

The Siege of Mandalore is not fought between the Republic and Separatist forces, but in a different way from other battles, it is hugely important in the grand scheme of the Galaxy.

Fought between Maul and his Mandalorian allies and a mixture of the 332nd company and Bo-Katan’s Mandalorian forces, the Siege of Mandalore resulted in the temporary retaking of Mandalore and capture of Maul. Of course, the end of the entire phenomenal arc and the aftermath of the siege saw the escape of Maul into the Galaxy to expand his criminal empire and to both Ahsoka Tano and Rex, surviving Order 66. It is a crucial point in the history of Mandalore as well as in the story of key players in the Clone Wars.

1 The Outer Rim Sieges

The Outer Rim sieges were the final campaign of the Clone Wars and blended in with the Great Jedi Purge, with most of the battles and skirmishes that were part of the sieges being settings for Order 66.

After pressure was put on the throats of the Republic, multiple Jedi Generals and their forces were deployed to various planets that would eventually be the setting of their demise. The Battle of Utapau, Battle of Kashyyyk, Battle of Felucia, as well as the Assault on Mygeeto and Siege of Saleucami, were all part of the Outer Rim sieges, and all were a part of the Great Jedi Purge. As the Battle of Geonosis is important for starting the Clone Wars, the Outer Rim sieges are important for being the finishing line of the war. There were some steps to come after, such as the duels and assassination of Separatist leaders, but this was the end of large-scale Clone Wars conflicts.
