Through Dave Filoni’s storytelling, Star Wars Rebels grew into a fantastic show with memorable moments and episodes that have become nothing short of iconic in the Star Wars canon. This alongside characters old and new whose stories were developed and who themselves are now beloved.
Despite all the good the show did though, there was still some not so great stuff within it, particularly in the form of episodes that could be considered filler, or that just did not work. 10 BROTHERS OF THE BROKEN HORN (SEASON 2 EPISODE 6) – 7.4
Brothers Of The Broken Horn sees Ezra take Chopper and the Phantom to answer a distress call that sees him come face to face with the renowned pirate Hondo Ohnaka. He has to figure out if the buccaneer is an ally or enemy.
From 681 reviews, the episode earned a 7.4. It is a testament to the quality of the show that one of its lowest-rated episodes is at a fairly decent 7.4 and is rated so low for being a filler episode and for putting a more childish spin on Hondo.
9 THE CALL (SEASON 2 EPISODE 15) – 7.3
The Call sees the crew searching for fuel for the rebel fleet, but they encounter massive and mysterious creatures deep in space who are being threatened by an ongoing mining operation.
The average score of 7.3 comes from 696 reviews. The episode has lived in infamy due to the ‘Space Whales’ and the complete lack of realism in the episode, even by Star Wars’ standards of suspending belief.
8 WARHEAD (SEASON 3 EPISODE 13) – 7.2
Warhead acts as a prelude to the brilliant Trials Of The Darksaber and focuses mostly on Zeb and Chopper. They find a droid in the Atollon wasteland and bring it back to base only to find out it is an imperial droid programmed to kill rebels.
The episode got a 7.2 from 624 reviews. The episode was originally planned to be a part of the aforementioned Trials Of The Darksaber as the B storyline, but it was decided they should be separated into two stories. What hurts Warhead it is filler and contributes nothing special.
7 CRAWLER COMMANDERS (SEASON 4 EPISODE 8) – 7.2
Crawler Commanders finds the Ghost crew in need of long-range communications. They find the needed equipment by pirating a huge mining vehicle, more specifically one of the Empire’s ore crawlers, meaning the Imperials caused the crew trouble.
With an average rating of 7.2, the episode received 528 reviews. It was an ok episode with some decent action but ultimately is lost in the shuffle as completely unmemorable.
6 DROIDS IN DISTRESS (SEASON 1 EPISODE 3) – 7.1
In Droids In Distress, the Ghost crew finds themselves low on supplies. They agree to steal from the Imperials for a crime lord and encounter a familiar droid duo along the way, but the weapons they plan on stealing are far more dangerous than they thought.
The episode’s 7.1 rating comes from 955 reviews. The episode mainly focuses on Ezra and Zeb, whose blossoming friendship is a highlight in what is a good episode that is only held back by how little impact it has on the show overall, similar to a lot on this list.
5 BLOOD SISTERS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 8) – 7.1
Blood Sisters focuses heavily on Sabine while she is out on a vital mission to meet a courier with key information. During this courier mission she encounters a former friend and partner in the bounty hunter Ketsu.
The episodes average 7.1 comes from 687 reviews. The episode misses the crew and the show’s overarching story element focusing on multiple crew members or the crew as a whole. Still, the deep dive into Sabine as a character and her past still makes for a good story.

Out Of Darkness takes a look into the strained Hera and Sabine relationship, specifically as the two go on a supply run that turns out to be more dangerous than they could have anticipated.

While the presence of other Ghost members in more prominent roles might have rounded out the episode better, the story still worked well enough.

The Wynkahthu Job sees the Ghost crew team up with Clone Wars fan favorite Hondo Ohnaka and his band of pirates to retrieve weapons needed for the rebellion.
There are 688 reviews thus far, giving the episode its 6.7. This episode gets more criticism than most filler for its awkward placement. It is more childish and fun but comes at a key time in the overall narrative for our heroes, dragging its score down, no matter how fun it is.
1 IRON SQUADRON (SEASON 3 EPISODE 8) – 6.4
Iron Squadron sees Grand Admiral Thrawn plotting against his enemies all the while Ghost crew encounters three young rebels who lead Ezra and Sabine to join up. They try and bring them under control as they plan on risking their lives to defend their planet.
The episode is the show’s lowest-rated, sitting at 6.4 from 733 reviews. The use of Kanan and to some people the use of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the arguably irritating nature of Iron Squadron, and the overall pointlessness of the episode are what it draws most of its criticism for. This combination lands it the lowest rating of the entire series.
