Since the first wave of Star Wars Lego sets appeared in 1999 to coincide with the release of The Phantom Menace (the largest being an 896-piece Mos Espa Podracer), Lego’s partnership with Star Wars has become one of their most lucrative, and thus resulted in some of the biggest (and coolest!) sets of all time.
While Lego’s most monolithic builds are always pretty expensive, with the holidays coming up avid Star Wars collectors will find their interests piqued by these unbelievably epic gargantuan sets, and they might even consider blowing their holiday budget on one. Here are the most monumentally huge Star Wars sets of all time, ordered by piece count.
10 Betrayal at Cloud City (2,812 pieces)
This 2018 Lego set, which is priced at $350, depicts Cloud City, a vital location from The Empire Strikes Back (that’s only been immortalized by a Lego set once before, in a 698-piece affair released back in 2004), and is accompanied by eighteen Lego Minifigures, including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca.
While the set’s interactive features give it at an appearance of being more for play than display, the four-section design with each area depicting a scene from the film is a nice touch and really adds to the overall presentation. Overall, this is a beautiful and elegantly crafted Lego set, albeit maybe more for new collectors than veteran Lego connoisseurs.
9 Imperial Star Destroyer (2002) (3,104 pieces)
This Ultimate Collector’s Edition Star Destroyer was released in 2002, by far the largest Star Wars set ever released at that time. It’s pretty standard, depicting the intimidating warship produced in mass quantities during the reign of Galactic Emperor Palpatine, but to its credit, it also includes a cool mini-model of the Alderaan cruiser Tantive IV.
Unfortunately for the average consumer, the set is very hard to find nowadays and has thus become a massive collector’s item. The rare Star Wars memorabilia enthusiast lucky enough to get their hands on one will likely note its great level of displayability as a plus, as the set being displayable is often a necessary amenity for the serious collector.
8 Super Star Destroyer (3,152 pieces)
This classic set from 2011, which retailed at about $400 upon its inception, depicts Darth Vader’s well-known flagship Executor alongside a traditional Imperial-class Star Destroyer for comparison. It features five Minifigures, including an exclusive Minifigure of Executor first officer Admiral Firmus Piett, a character first introduced in The Empire Strikes Back.
Despite not being as well-known or collectible as many of the other sets on this list, it’s still impressively large and impeccably designed, and it definitely ranks as one of Lego’s most impressive creations.
7 Sandcrawler (3,296 pieces)
This 2014 Sandcrawler replica is undoubtedly one of the coolest Lego sets ever created. After fans wanted a bigger version of the legendary Tatooinian vehicle from A New Hope than the 1,669-piece replica released in 2005, Lego delivered with this portable fortress of epic proportions.
The set contains seven Minifigures, tons of interactive features, and outstanding attention to detail – a sign of just how far Lego sets have come over the years. While it’s not the easiest set to find, this set is definitely worth your time, effort, and money, and without it, any true collector’s archives would be incomplete.
6 Death Star II (3,417 pieces)
This 2005 set showcases the ultimate version of the original Quadanium steel superweapon, the second Death Star, as featured in Return of the Jedi. Retailing at $300 upon release, this intricate and voguish (not to mention massive!) set was taken off the market in 2007 and remains one of the most difficult Star Wars sets to attain.
Fans interested enough to find and purchase a copy of the set will experience a uniquely challenging build, but will also have the pleasure of owning one of the coolest and most attention-grabbing sets in Lego history.
5 Death Star (2008) (3,803 pieces)
This extremely sizeable 2008 set features twenty-four Minifigures and droids set against a hugely interactive Lego version of the planet-destroying Death Star, split into a series of miniature replicas of scenes from A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.
It’s one of the most ambitious and artistic Lego creations manufactured to date, and despite the fact that the set received an even larger reimagining in 2016 (which we’ll get to in just a minute), there shouldn’t be visible confusion as to the quality of this magnificent must-have.
4 Death Star (2016) (4,016 pieces)
This huge 2016 revamping of the similarly-large 2008 model actually underwhelmed fans of the Lego Star Wars series of builds, as it’s basically just a somewhat improved version of its predecessor – featuring a slightly larger play experience and three new Minifigures.
While many questioned if the update was really necessary, it’s worth noting that the set might have been created to introduce later generations to the incredible design of the original build, since they aren’t as likely to purchase classic models. It’s still an extremely impressive set, just one perhaps overshadowed by its antecedent – in this case, it may have been better for Lego to follow the age-old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
3 Imperial Star Destroyer (2019) (4,784 pieces)
This enormous 2019 Lego set is an authentic recreation of Darth Vader’s former Imperial Destroyer Devastator as featured in A New Hope. In Star Wars canon, the Devastator appeared in battles at Scarif, Hoth, and Endor, and on top of that captured the first starship ever to appear on screen in a Star Wars film, the Tantive IV – and this mammoth-sized build definitely lives up to the spirit of its inspiration’s illustrious past.
It’s incredibly cool, incredibly large, and incredibly detailed – to the degree that even the somewhat hefty $700 price tag hasn’t kept fans from singing its praises.
2 Millennium Falcon (2007) (5,195 pieces)
This incredible build from 2007 showcases the fastest and most famous starship in the long and arduous history of Star Wars, the Corellian freighter known as the Millennium Falcon. It features one of the most complete and accurate representations of the Falcon ever recorded, nailing the vessel’s extravagant design down to the last detail.
If you’re looking for a build that takes days to complete but still offers a worthwhile final product, then this is the set for you.

Finally, we come to the largest and most intricate Lego build ever created: The Ultimate Collector’s Millenium Falcon set. With a total cost of nearly $800, this creation takes an eternity to build but yields an unbelievably impressive, perfectly finessed Lego version of the vessel with several subtlely-placed details accurate to the original film that even the biggest Star Wars fans don’t notice.
