The Flash Season 7 Turns Cisco Into MechaVibe

It looks like Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdez) has a new superhero identity in The Flash: Mecha-Vibe. The name, which isn’t part of his comic book counterpart’s history, was mentioned during a showdown with a season 7 antagonist, Abra Kadabra (David Dastmalchian), who returned for the first time after several seasons.

When The Flash began, Cisco was far from a superhero. As a tech genius, he did most of his work from S.T.A.R. Labs and supported Barry (Grant Gustin) from there, but those familiar with the character from DC Comics strongly suspected that his role would evolve. And before long, it did. After developing super powers, Cisco joined Barry in the field as Vibe. In The Flash season 5, Cisco decided to step away from being a superhero and return to the way things used to be by taking the metahuman cure. However, recent events with Eva McCulloch (Efrat Dor) have caused Cisco to find ways to get back into action.

In The Flash season 7, episode 4, “Central City Strong”, Kadabra – a villain from the distant future – said to Cisco, “I see you’re finally Mecha-Vibe.” He then told Cisco that he’s aware of his future, but gave no other clues about what he knew of the character’s fate. The name is clearly connected to Cisco’s new modus operandi in the Arrowverse. Due to Barry and Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) not having enough manpower to beat Mirror Master on their own in the previous episode, Cisco created a mechanized vest, along with gauntlets, that were somehow able to replicate the metahuman powers he once had. The big difference is that his new suit is much bulkier with all its mechanical parts. Cisco reusing the suit to fight Kadabra means that the showdown with Eva wasn’t a one-time deal for him.

Based on this scene with Kadabra, it appears that Cisco is about to take “Mecha-Vibe” as his new superhero alter ego. It’s a fitting name, considering Cisco’s powers are now tech-based. Looking at what Kadabra said, Cisco may continue operating as Mecha-Vibe for quite some time. For Kadabra to have knowledge of it, it must represent an important chapter in the character’s life that won’t end right away. Plus, a 65th century villain knowing about someone like Cisco could be a tease that season 7 has something huge and unexpected in store for the hero.

It’s also interesting that Cisco is currently taking this path in the Arrowverse. After all, no longer wanting to be a superhero was a factor in his decision to take the metahuman cure in the first place. As for why’s doing this, it could be that the need for Mecha-Vibe on Team Flash relates in some way to the departure of Ralph Dibney. Because of Hartley Sawyer’s firing after season 6, the team has been a little short-handed in terms of superheroes. Typically, the Scarlet Speedster has been able to count on both the Elongated Man and Killer Frost in battle, but now, only one of them is available. As Mecha-Vibe, Cisco has been able to fill the void left by Ralph on The Flash.
