Harry Potter star Tom Felton has said that he’s trying to organize a cast reunion. Having portrayed the arrogant Draco Malfoy in all eight of the Potter films, Felton is well known to fans of the series and has even previously spoken about how he’d like to see it rebooted.

Now, almost a decade on since the final installment of the franchise was released, the cast has all gone on to other things. There has been some tragedy along the way, with the deaths of Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) as well as Richard Harris (Albus Dumbledore in The Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets). There was also the brief imprisonment of Jamie Waylett, who was known as one of Malfoy’s trusty minions, Vincent Crabbe. But fans have also watched as Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, in particular, have gone on to stellar careers. In fact, the entire Harry Potter cast was so diverse and talented that it’s easy to forget just how many outstanding performances it took to get such a massive film franchise off the ground and embraced by fans.

Because the creation of eight Harry Potter films was such a momentous feat, Felton has been eager to get everyone back together again to commemorate the series’ 19th anniversary. While speaking to ET Online, Felton revealed that he’s always in contact with many of Harry Potter’s cast members and that he even played golf with the Weasley twins (James and Oliver Phelps) recently. As November 14th marks the official 19th anniversary of the franchise, Felton said that he is “planning some sort of digital celebration.” Exactly who this will include and what form it will take is unknown, but Felton’s eagerness is promising:

“I saw the Weasley twins the other day. We went out to play some golf. Always chatting with a lot of the other guys on WhatsApp and staying in touch with them and making sure everything’s alright. It’s been nice because it’s the 19th-year anniversary on Nov. 14, so I’m planning some sort of digital celebration…I’m trying to wrangle all the oldies back together again to celebrate the achievement really.”

It might come as a surprise for some to learn how popular Draco is, even after all these years. Fans of the series know that Draco wasn’t exactly the easiest person to like, especially considering all the hardships he created for Harry, Ron, and Hermione over the years. However, as with any great franchise, every character seems to have its own dedicated fanbase, and Draco is no different in this respect. It does seem a bit strange that a Potter reunion would be planned this year and not next year, when the series officially celebrates its 20th anniversary. At the same time, die-hard Potter fans are hardly going to complain about possibly getting a reunion a year early—especially given the sort of year that 2020 has been.

One potential stumbling block for this proposed reunion is the inclusion of JK Rowling. At present, Felton hasn’t mentioned anything about the creator of the series taking part in any sort of “digital celebration.” Rowling’s recent public profile has been filled with problematic issues that have greatly troubled many Harry Potter fans. If this reunion is to go ahead in a positive and enjoyable way, it would likely be a good idea to avoid including the controversial author.
