Riverdale synopsis
The CW has released the official synopsis for their upcoming series Riverdale, an adaptation of the characters found in Archie Comics. The latest series from Greg Berlanti (Arrow) promises a new, surprising take on Archie Andrews and his friends, starting with the death of a supporting character from the comics and an unforeseen relationship. Check out the synopsis below:
“As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom – and nothing feels the same. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the All-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize he wants to pursue a career in music – not follow in his dad’s footsteps – despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel).
Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him – certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind – as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves – which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice (Mädchen Amick) – aren’t the only thing holding her back.
When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)… Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows…”
For those familiar with Archie Comics history or the rebooted Archie series by Mark Waid and Fiona Staples, the synopsis might come as a bit of a surprise. From the de-aging of Ms. Grundy to the introduction of a potential murder mystery, the series promises to be a unique spin on the source material. The stars of the series recently compared the show to Twin Peaks in terms of tone and promised a grittier take on the characters. Whether the new take attracts or alienates loyal Archie readers remains to be seen.
Riverdale will premiere midseason 2016-2017 on The CW.

Rush Hour cancelled
CBS has chosen not to renew Rush Hour, the television show inspired by the action/comedy series of films starring Jackie Chan (Kung Fu Panda 3) and Chris Tucker (Silver Linings Playbook). The new series, which starred Jon Foo (Tekken) as Jonathan Lee and Justin Hires (21 Jump Street) as James Carter, struggled to find an audience since the first trailer was released. Things didn’t improve from there, with the series’ premiere only drawing 5 million viewers.
Numbers have steadily declined in the seven weeks since the premiere, leaving little question to the show’s ultimate fate. CBS will allow the first season to run its course before pulling the plug on the show.
Rush Hour airs Thursday night at 10:00 p.m. EST on CBS.

Peaky Blinders Trailer
Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming third season of Peaky Blinders. The crime drama follows the Peaky Blinders gang and their rise to power in Birmingham, England just after the end of the World War I. Their leader Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) is now a wealthy man heading into the third season, which takes place in the Roaring Twenties. It’s during these happy times that Shelby finds himself at the center of an international arms deal that promises to change the course of history. Because of this, Shelby and his family will contend with a host of new antagonists, including an exile from the White Russian army, a priest with a killer dog, and a manipulative duchess.
The third season will also see the return of Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Jewish gang leader Alfie Solomons. The season is currently already airing in Europe, where early reviews have been largely positive for the explosive third season.
Peaky Blinders season 3 will be available on Netflix starting May 31st, 2016.

AMC has released a number of new promos ahead of the series’ premiere of Preacher, their upcoming adaptation of the comics series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. The three new promos are each set around one of the series’ main characters: Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), Proinsias Cassidy (Joe Gilgun), and Tulip O’ Hare (Ruth Negga). From the looks of these new promos, which feature extended footage from the previous trailer, the characters will fall in line with the source material, with Gilgun’s Cassidy being especially impressive visually.
Series executive producer Seth Rogan went a step further with the marketing, creating his own “sweded’ version of the series trailer (above). Rogan cast himself as every character seen in the teaser and even provided his own sound effects and score. While the video won’t do much to convince skeptics about the show’s merits, it’s a fun piece of marketing as the premiere draws ever closer.
Preacher premieres Sunday May 22nd, 2016 on AMC.

Looking: The Movie Premiere Date
HBO has announced that Looking: The Movie will premiere on Saturday, July 23rd, 2016. The feature-length presentation will serve as an ending to the short-lived comedy series Looking, which previously ran for two seasons. The film will see video game designer Patrick Murray (Jonathan Groff) return to San Francisco after nearly a year away from the city to celebrate a momentous event with his old friends. After arriving, Murray must cope with the unresolved relationships in his past and make tough decisions about his future.
Looking was created by Michael Lannan, who co-wrote the film’s script with director Andrew Haigh (45 Years). Sarah Condon (Bored to Death) serves as an executive producer on the series alongside Lannan and Haigh.
Looking: The Movie premieres July 23rd, 2016 at 10:00 p.m. EST on HBO.

House of Lies ending
Showtime has announced that their comedy series House of Lies will be concluding with the season 5 finale. The series stars Don Cheadle (Captain America: Civil War) as Marty Kaan, a management consultant who runs his own consulting firm, Kaan & Associates. Showtime CEO David Nevins released the following statement:
“House of Lies is a comedy that has frequently been ahead of the curve. Over the course of its five seasons, it has tackled such hot-button topics as gender identity, wealth inequality, white privilege, police brutality, interracial relationships, and code-switching with honesty and a biting sense of honesty.”
The series was based on Martin Kihn’s book House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal your Watch and Tell you the Time. The series finale was filmed on location in Havana, Cuba, marking the first time an American scripted series was shot in Cuba since diplomatic relations were restored. Matthew Carnahan, the series creator, directed the final episode.
House of Lies airs on at 9:00 p.m. EST on Showtime.
Shooter trailer
USA has released the official trailer for Shooter, their upcoming series based on the 2007 film of the same name, which itself was an adaptation of the novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. The series sees Ryan Phillipe (Secrets and Lies) step into the role of Bob Lee Swagger, an expert marksman living in exile. Swagger is brought out of retirement when a threat to the President of the United States is revealed, but his return to service only leads to him being framed for assassinating the figure he was sworn to protect.
The Shooter TV series is being produced by Mark Wahlberg, who starred in the original film, as well as Stephen Levinson (Prisoners) and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers). The script was written by John Hlavin (The Shield), who also serves as a producer on the series.
Shooter is expected to premiere on USA later this year.

Damien Cancelled
A&E has officially cancelled their Omen-inspired series Damien after just one season. Damien followed the now fully-grown Damien Thorn (Bradley James), working as a renowned war photographer while trying to face his destiny as the Antichrist. The show succeeded initially in paying homage to the 1976 film, but struggled to do much more. After the premiere drew less than a million viewers, the series viewership steadily declined and reached an all-time low with the season 1 finale.
Executive producer Glen Mazzara took to Twitter to confirm the show’s cancellation, writing: “This hurts to say but ‘Damien’ will not be getting a second season. Thank you from all of us to our amazing fans… so sorry we won’t be able to continue our story for you.”

Limitless Update
Limitless, the CBS television followup to the 2011 film of the same name, will not be returning to CBS for the fall 2016/2017 season. However, the series hasn’t been officially cancelled. Instead, CBS is currently shopping around the series to other networks, primarily streaming outlets. Early rumors seem to indicate that the series could find new life on CBS All Access, the network’s SVOD service, which could benefit from offering new, original content. Conversations are ongoing about the life of the series, but as of now a second season of Limitless is not confirmed.
The series centers on Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), who discovers the mind-enhancing powers of the drug NZT-48 and uses his new gifts to help the FBI solve crimes. Bradley Cooper, who starred in the 2011 film, is an executive producer on the series and has had a recurring guest role as Senator Edward Morra. As of the end of the first season, Morra is missing and Finch is back with the Cross Jurisdictional Command team, ready to take on new cases.
