Ubisoft has sounded out a warning to players engaging in XP farming via the Story Creator Mode in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

The developers released a tool in June that allows players to create their own quests in the game, as well as have other players’ quests appear in their game. However, the tool hasn’t been put to good use by everyone.

Certain gamers are using it to level up by doing absolutely nothing of note, simply spawning and killing NPCs to quickly increase XP.

Ubisoft has since published a forum post in which it warns that such quests will no longer be allowed to run free in Odyssey as it looks to crack down on XP farming.

“Story Creator Mode was designed to be a tool for players to let their creativity and imagination run free as they build their very own Stories to share with others, using a modified version of the tools our own designers used to develop the quests in the game. However, since the launch of the beta we have noticed an increasing flow of ‘farming quests’ that exploit the tool to get large amounts of XP,” the post reads.

“These exploits risk jeopardizing the overall quality, integrity, and purpose of Story Creator Mode and results in less visibility for the creative, interesting and frankly fantastic community stories that have been published.

“We want to focus on rewarding creativity by highlighting quality quests and we are working on fixes and adjustments to reduce the impact of such farming quests on the player experience. We are also changing Story Creator Mode’s terms of use to prevent creators from publishing these kinds of Stories.”

This means that any quest having the slightest hint of an XP farm will fall afoul of the mode’s terms of service and will not show up in the game’s recommendations. Ubisoft adds that it will sanction users who “continue to willingly and intentionally misuse the tool” and will actively combat other exploits going forward.

Any stories reported for cheating will be hidden, while the terms of use will be updated to address the exploitation of the tool.
