From the creators of Until Dawn comes the newest title from Supermassive Games, Man of Medan.

It’s been several years since the release of Until Dawn, but Supermassive Games has hardly been sitting on their hands. They’ve come since come out with a prequel for PlayStation VR called The Inpatient, and have just announced the release date of their latest creation, The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan, which comes out on August 30th.

Man of Medan is actually the first in what will be a brand new anthology of horror games. In an interview with PlayStation Blog, Supermassive CEO and executive producer Pete Samuels describes it as the spiritual successor to Until Dawn’s brand of suspenseful, narrative-based horror.

“Man of Medan takes place the South Pacific and sees five friends set sail on a holiday diving trip,” explains Samuels. “With a rumored WWII wreck to find, and plenty of on-deck partying to be had, our group get ready for what should be the trip of a lifetime. As the day unfolds, and a storm rolls in, their trip soon changes into something much more sinister.

“People should expect the kind of tension and fear that many associate with Until Dawn, and with more significant branching that we’ve ever done before. All the characters can live or die!”

The game’s plot uses real-world legends and events to add it a bit of authenticity, with each character’s survival leading to one of many different possible endings. Man of Medan is said to have a much larger branching narrative than Until Dawn, with certain scenes existing on very specific narrative paths.

“Man of Medan has the most branching and possible outcomes of any of our games to date,” Samuels added.

Supermassive also managed to land a whole bunch of Hollywood talent to play voices in the game, including Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), Rami Malek (Mr. Robot, Bohemian Rhapsody), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), and Ayisha Issa (Polar, Immortals).

With Bandai taking care of the publishing side, Man of Medan will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC on August 30th.
