It’s not treason if it’s to prove a point about a video game.

Video game leaks kind of suck for developers. Imagine working hard on a game or feature and planning a huge reveal, only to have it plastered all over the internet before you get the chance to. Now imagine if you’re in the military and your secrets have been leaked, not by a spy, but by some guy trying to prove a point about a video game. In what is bizarrely the second incident of its kind, a War Thunder player has leaked secret military information about army tanks.

The first leak took place only three months ago, when someone who had access to classified tank documents belonging to the British Army posted them on a forum in order to try and get War Thunder to change some details about a tank that it had got wrong. The images were quickly removed by the moderators and the poster was reminded that they were “in violation of the Official Secrets Act as stated by the warning on the cover of the document, an offence which can carry up to a 14 year prison sentence if prosecuted.”

As reported by the UK Defense Journal, this latest incident however, is a classic case of a player versus player argument which ended up with one of them posting secret military information to prove they were right; you know, the usual. What was posted was the manual of the French Leclerc Main Battle Tank.

“Guys its not funnny [sic] to leak classified Documents of modern equipment you put the lives of many on stake who work daily with the Vehicles! Keep in Mind that those documents will be deleted immediately alongside sanctions. Thanks for reading!” wrote the moderator who probably could not believe that the same thing was happening only three months later.

Unfortunately for the poster, their top-secret military leak was for nothing, as someone from War Thunder’s community management team said, “The time it takes to review and process reports however is no reasoning, justification or any grounds to break legally defined permeameters in any way. We will always entirely reject any such documentation and resolve the matter with any legal requirements.”
