The fall movie season is almost upon us, and soon-to-be big animated hit The LEGO Ninjago Movie has released an Easter Egg-filled promo telling kids headed back to classes what it takes to be a true ninja this school year.

LEGO Ninjago, the third film in Warner Bros. Animation’s LEGO Universe, hits just after schools go back and, like the target audience for the film, the secret ninja team at the center of the film tasked with saving the lego world from the evil Garmadon (Justin Theroux) are indeed still in high school. To prep potential viewers, the cast of the film has a few tips for balancing the thrilling double life of being a student and a ninja warrior.

In a new promo for The LEGO Ninjago Movie, female warrior Nya (voiced by Abbi Jacobson) gives any prospective ninjas some much-needed advice about the qualities of living as a hero. According to Nya, the key qualities of a ninja are strength, power, and confidence, something her team possesses in their fight against the forces of evil. It also apparently takes some hero worship, as Nya has taped-up pictures in her locker of some of the other female heroes of the LEGO universe, including Lucy/Wyldstyle and Unikitty from The LEGO Movie and Batgirl from The LEGO Batman Movie. Also featured is the LEGO version of Wonder Woman, who of course made her first appearance in The LEGO Movie and whose live-action counterpart was the runaway hit of Summer 2017.

Some of the things that Nya suggest are easily accessible for aspiring ninjas, like makeup for camouflage purposes and a sushi lunch for healthy nutrition. Others may not be so easy to get, like a passageway inside of her locker that leads to a secret lair of powerful, crime-fighting mech suits. Either way, the point she’s trying to make is that anyone can be a ninja and save the world one sharpened pencil at a time.

This promo not only is timely with schools going into session across the country, but features clever connections to the rest of the LEGO universe films that strengthens the fact that all of these different adventures and spinoffs take place in the same basic setting as the original 2014 film. It remains to be see whether the events of those other films will inform the destruction and chaos of The LEGO Ninjago Movie or just serve as clever little cameos and references like they do here.

Either way, it’s easy to get excited for the film on its own merits, as both The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie have been hilarious, high-energy family films, and there’s no reason to suggest that The LEGO Ninjago Movie will be any different when it distracts kids from their homework at the end of September.
