A Halloween fan theory suggests there is a connection between John Carpenter’s original film and Halloween III: Season of the Witch, with Michael Myers’ iconic mask being a Silver Shamrock product. Back in 1978, John Carpenter introduced the world to a new serial killer in Halloween, which popularized slasher films in the 1980s and played a big role in developing the genre. Halloween follows Michael Myers, who was committed to Smith’s Grove sanitarium when he was six years old after murdering his sister. Fifteen years later, Michael escaped and returned to his hometown, where he stalked Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and friends on Halloween night.

Halloween didn’t perform well upon its initial release, as critics weren’t too interested in it and thus got bad reviews, but as years have passed, it has been revisited and is now considered one of the best horror films ever made. The original plan was for the Halloween franchise to be an anthology one, a plan that was set in motion with Halloween III: Season of the Witch, which is completely separate from Michael and Laurie’s storyline, but the idea was scrapped after the film underperformed. However, some fans believe there is a connection between Halloween 3 and Michael Myers, and it’s all through the mask.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch follows Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) and Ellie Grimbridge (Stacey Nelkin), the daughter of a murder victim, as they uncover a dangerous plot by Conal Cochran (Dan O’Herlihy), owner of the company Silver Shamrock, through which he planned a mass murder on Halloween night. The key elements are the masks produced by his company, which have a microchip that triggered by a TV commercial would kill the children wearing them, and it’s all part of a Celtic ritual. Now, a fan theory suggests that the clown mask Michael was wearing on the night he killed his sister was made by Silver Shamrock, thus why he suddenly became a killer.

The author of the theory explains that the mask was a beta test of the ones seen in Halloween 3, and which instead of killing Michael, messed with his head and drove him insane. Another way of seeing this theory is that not only the clown mask was a Silver Shamrock product but also the now-iconic mask he wears after he escapes from Smith’s Grove. The mask, then, would make him immortal, explaining why he has proven to be so difficult to defeat. As his crimes obviously didn’t go unnoticed, Silver Shamrock took note of the effects their products had on Michael and kept working on them until they made the ones shown in Halloween 3.

Although it’s not a crazy theory, and it would explain a lot about what drove Michael to start killing and how he’s seemingly undefeatable, it can’t work because Halloween 3 treats the previous films as fictional, and a trailer for the first one appears on a TV. Halloween and Halloween III: Season of the Witch are not set in the same universe, but if they were, it wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility that Silver Shamrock somehow contributed to Michael’s crimes.
