Harry Potter touched the lives of many over the last few decades, and with the 20th- anniversary reunion special approaching, it has no doubt had a resurgence in conversation. The guest list for the special is quite extensive and includes the majority of the beloved Weasley family.

This fan-favorite family consists entirely of Gryffindors, which is quite bizarre when considering there are nine Weasleys in total. Is it possible that there are better house placements for these redheaded members?

Arthur – Ravenclaw

Arthur Weasley, the family’s father figure, was sorted into Gryffindor at age 11, though maybe he would have been better suited as a Ravenclaw. Arthur’s natural sense of curiosity about the Muggle world throughout his life backs up this thought process as learning is one of the things Ravenclaws value most. Arthur isn’t ashamed of his curiosity either, turning it into his entire career as an employee in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office at the Ministry of Magic. His eagerness to learn didn’t stop at this position, which is evident by the first time he met Harry during The Chamber of Secrets where he quickly asked him, “What is the function of a rubber duck?”

Molly – Hufflepuff

Arguably the best mother in the entirety of the Harry Potter series, Molly Weasley was sorted into Gryffindor at the start of her first year, but her patience and loyalty with her family suggests she may be more of a Hufflepuff. Parenting seven children, especially the mischievous Fred and George, can be quite tiring, but Molly does it without breaking a sweat regardless of the mayhem those kids may cause. Molly also becomes a sort of hostess figure when the Order of the Phoenix reforms, being ever-so helpful as Hufflepuffs tend to be. Her additional warm and friendly nature, particularly towards Harry whom she treats as her own son, further demonstrates the Hufflepuff within her.

Bill – Gryffindor

William “Bill” Weasley, the oldest of the seven Weasley children, actually was a Gryffindor through and through. During his time at Hogwarts, he excelled quickly in his coursework, particularly in Defense Against the Dark Arts, and began to prove his bravery as early as his fourth year by assisting Jacob’s sibling in their mission to discovering the Cursed Vaults, as seen in the mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

Bill continued to help Jacob’s siblings until he graduated from Hogwarts, landing a job as a curse-breaker at Gringotts Wizarding Bank. His courage is further showcased after he defeated a mummy in Egypt on a mission and joined the Order of the Phoenix early during the Second Wizarding War.

Charlie – Gryffindor

Similar to his older brother Bill, Charles “Charlie” Wealsey was also a true Gryffindor at heart. From a young age, Charlie expressed his deep fascination with dragons and that became a large part of who he was. This love led Charlie to do a number of fearless acts, including exploring the Forbidden Forest on his own at the age of 13 and traveling to Romania alone after finishing his seven years at Hogwarts in order to work with dragons. Despite his large distance from Hogwarts, Charlie didn’t shy away from the Second Wizarding War, joining the Order of the Phoenix when they assembled and physically being present during the Battle of Hogwarts.

Percy – Slytherin

Percy Weasley may have been one of the most prideful students to enter the Gryffindor common room, which is exactly why he would have fit right in with the Slytherins. Pride, resourcefulness, and determination are all traits that Slytherin house values and are all traits that Percy exhibits. He never hesitated to brag about his accomplishments and often locked himself in his room at The Burrow, the Weasley family home, to further progress in his course work or career. Percy did whatever he could to move up in life, even if it meant disagreeing with his family’s beliefs at the start of Voldemort’s return, and this kind of behavior is something that is more common in Slytherin.

Fred and George – Ravenclaw

Twins Fred and George Weasley always had a penchant for trouble and pranks, and it’s the wit and creativity that it takes to pull off those pranks that suggest the twins could have thrived in Ravenclaw. When they started up their business Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, their products baffled many due to the level of skill and intelligence it would take to create them.

Even Hermione Granger couldn’t quite understand how some of the twins’ products worked. The massive amounts of experimenting of several different wizarding subject areas – potions, charms, etc. – to perfect the items they sold demonstrate how Fred and George were Ravenclaws at their core.

Ron – Hufflepuff

Ronald “Ron” Weasley was sorted into Gryffindor alongside Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, but probably should have been sorted into Hufflepuff alongside Hannah Abott and Susan Bones. Not to take away the bravery that he displays over the years, as Hufflepuffs can certainly be brave, but Ron’s consistent loyalty to Harry suggests he’d be better suited in Hufflepuff. Ron never truly questioned or doubted Harry, believed in him no matter what others thought, and stuck up for him when others wouldn’t. His helpfulness as Harry’s right-hand man assisted the trio greatly during their time at Hogwarts.

Ginny – Gryffindor

Ginerva “Ginny” Weasley, the youngest and only girl of the seven children, truly did belong in the house of Gryffindor. Ginny’s fierce personality, both on and off the quidditch pitch, highlights the courageousness that resides in her heart. From the halls of Hogwarts, Ginny did whatever she could to fight in the Second Wizarding War, including restarting Dumbledore’s Army with Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood after the death of Albus Dumbledore. She proved herself to be a brave and powerful witch through her coursework and through her actions outside of the classroom, so it is no wonder that Ginny was sorted into Gryffindor house.
