After years of waiting, Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night has finally arrived, transporting players back to an era where Castlevania: Symphony of The Night was the new must-have game to play on the PlayStation. Yet, some time has passed since Koji Igarashi’s latest hit came to our lives, so odds are you need something to play.

If you’re hankering for a good Metroidvania — an action-adventure genre with an emphasis on backtracking and exploration — we’ve got you covered. Here are 10 Other Metroidvania Games To Play After You Beat Bloodstained Ritual Of The Night.

10 The Swapper

Publisher: Facepalm Games

Developer: Facepalm Games

Platforms: PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux

Depending on who you talk to, The Swapper is or is not a Metroidvania, so we’ll keep it a little farther away from number one. Where The Swapper really excels, however, is in its puzzles.

Giving players multiple versions of themselves to jump between, we must move and place each body in the right way to clear paths. It’s an interesting concept that works surprisingly well with its deep space sci-fi setting.

9 The Mummy Demastered

Publisher: WayForward

Developer: WayForward

Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC

The Mummy Demastered might be the best thing that came about from Universal’s failed Dark Universe. We know, that’s not necessarily the highest bar to hurdle, but this game is really good. In fact, we’d be confident in saying it’s one of the best movie tie-in games of all time.

Ditching the plot of The Mummy, players take control of soldiers commanded by Dr. Henry Jekyll as they take on Princess Ahmanet. Players are not a single fighter, however. Instead, when your avatar dies, players start from scratch and, if they choose, they could find a zombie version of their deceased soldier who is carrying all the items accumulated throughout the playthrough.

8 Dead Cells

Publisher: Motion Twin

Developer: Motion Twin

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, iOS, PC, Mac

Believe it or not, Dead Cells is more than just that game that everyone was talking about because of controversy. In fact, that controversy almost overshadowed a title that really deserves all the attention in the world.

Drip feeding players bits of lore as they see fit, Dead Cells drops players on an island where they play as The Prisoner, a spirit-like creature that can possess dead bodies. This actually plays into the main hook of the game. On top of being a Metroidvania, it’s a roguelike, meaning when you die, you lose everything and start over.

7 Ori And The Blind Forest

Publisher: Xbox Game Studios

Developers: Moon Studios

Platforms: Microsoft Windows‎; ‎Xbox One

Anyone who suggests video games can’t be art need to see Ori And The Blind Forest. In this beautiful title, players take control of Ori, a guardian spirit, who fell from the spirit tree. They’re found by Naru and raised as her own.

Yet, following some unfortunate events, Naru passes away and Ori is left to traverse the forest alongside Sien as he tries to find the light of water, wind, and warmth. The gameplay is fluid and satisfying, as Ori is used for climbing and jumping, while Sein is used to shoot flames to defeat enemies.

6 Hollow Knight

Publisher: Team Cherry

Developers: Team Cherry

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Mac, Linux

At this point, Hollow Knight is on every possible console, and for good reason. With deep lore and gameplay that puts an emphasis on exploration, players are encouraged to learn about this fascinating world.

That won’t be an easy task, however, as Hollow Knight is one of the more challenging games available. With a focus on melee and parrying, the game’s more artful visual direction only masks some high-octane action. Don’t get it twisted, however: Hollow Knight has a plethora of spells and abilities to sift through, giving players a lot of variety when it comes to playing the game.

5 Steamworld Dig 2

Publisher: Image & Form Games

Developer: Image & Form Games

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, Microsoft Windows, Mac, Linux

When an old trading town is hit with an earthquake, the only Steambot left must dig tunnels and traverse the underground. Along the way, players will encounter enemies, bosses, and a bit of treasure to boot. If that’s not enough to sell you on this game, it has a hook shot, which, objectively makes every game better.

With a more cartooney aesthetic, this game isn’t as stunning as some other entries on this list. However, it’s a massive upgrade over its predecessor, and for what it’s worth, it’s very nice to look at.

4 Yoku’s Island Express

10 Other Metroidvania Games To Play After You Beat Bloodstained Ritual Of The Night

Publisher: Team17 Digital Ltd

Developer: Villa Gorilla

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Of all the games on this list, Yoku’s Island Express may be the most different. Taking the platforming out of the equation, this title plays more like pinball. Don’t consider this a Sonic Spinball clone, however, because more than anything, it’s a Metroidvania.

With a focus on momentum, collecting, and exploration, Yoku’s Island Express places players in the shoes of the dung beetle Yoku as he tries to save the island Mokumana from a catastrophe after the land’s diety is attacked. It’s charming, fun, and fresh.

3 Axiom Verge

Publisher: Thomas Happ Games LLC

Developer: Thomas Happ Games LLC

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Wii U PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Windows, Mac, Linux

Axiom Verge is a love letter to Metroid. Following a lab explosion, a scientist is teleported to an unknown alien world. With little given to the player out of the gate, it’s up to us to figure out what is going on. With tons of weapons to collect, a fantastic artistic direction, interesting enemies, and a plot that players will never truly figure out until the end, this is not only one of the best Metroidvanias around, it’s one of the best indie games of the decade.

Released back in 2015, Axiom Verge is on every current-generation console along with including Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and even PC, making it readily accessible. While the initial price tag of $20+ is a little offputting for something that old, it’s worth every penny.

2 Metroid: Samus Returns

Publisher: Nintendo

Developers: Mercury Steam, Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development

Platform: Nintendo Switch

When Nintendo announced Metroid: Samus Returns at E3 2017, it caught fans off-guard. A complete revamp of Metroid II: Return Of Samus, this 3DS title takes the classic Gameboy game and improves it in almost every conceivable way.

Combat has been kicked up to 11 by introducing a perry system dubbed “Melee Counter.” This adds a nice ripple that makes fighting as exciting as it’s ever been in Metroid. Aside from that, the game features another series first by allowing players to aim in every direction. These two additions make hunting alien brain jellyfish as fun as it possibly can be.

1 Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night & Rondo Of Blood

Publisher: Konami

Developer: Konami

Platform: PlayStation 4

In Symphony of The Night, players take the role of Alucard, the son of Dracula, as he tries to destroy his father. They must traverse his dad’s castle, slowly upgrading his skills and finding his powers and weapons he lost at the beginning of the game. The level design here is fantastic, and for those who’ve never played the game before, it’s even better than it appears at first glance.

Rondo Of Blood, on the other hand, is another solid addition in the Castlevania series. Originally released on the TurboGrafx-16 in 1993, it was widely regarded as one of the best games on the console. While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Symphony of The Night, those looking for a solid vampire-slaying title will adore this game.
