Boba Return returned yet again in The Mandalorian season 2, episode 6, “Chapter 14: The Tragedy,” but what does his Star Wars future hold? When The Mandalorian debuted, it seemed like any plans to bring back Boba Fett had been shelved in favor of Disney’s new Mandalorian character, but, after being teased in season 1, season 2 has brought the bounty hunter back into the fold in a big way.

The Mandalorian season 2, episode 1, “Chapter 9: The Marshal” marked Boba Fett’s return, revealing he survived the sarlacc, although he had lost his iconic armor, which had fallen into the hands of Cobb Vanth. After Din Djarin took the armor from the Marshal of Mos Pelgo, “The Tragedy” reveals that Boba and Fennec Shand tracked him all the way to Tython, where they made their move so that Boba could finally reclaim his famous attire.

In the short-term, The Mandalorian sets up Mando and Boba Fett working together for a little while longer, at least until they can take Baby Yoda back from Moff Gideon. But his long-term future is less clear. Now that Boba Fett is well and truly back, jetpacks, rockets, and all, then Star Wars will surely want to use him more: will that be in a movie, a TV spinoff, or The Mandalorian season 3?

Will Boba Fett Appear In A Future Star Wars Movie?

Had things worked out to Disney’s original plan, then a Boba Fett movie would likely have already happened by now. After Disney purchased Lucasfilm and announced plans for anthology movies alongside a new trilogy, one based on Boba Fett was highly rumored, given the character’s popularity and the fact he’d already returned from the “dead” once in the EU (now Legends). It was speculated at the time that Josh Trank’s movie would be about Boba Fett, which has since been confirmed. However, he was fired from the project and so it never saw the light of day. In 2018, it was reported that Logan’s James Mangold had been hired to make a movie about Boba, but when Solo: A Star Wars Story failed at the box office, such plans were shelved yet again. The future of Star Wars on the big screen remains unclear, but with The Mandalorian such a success, it feels like likely now that a Boba Fett movie will ever happen.

Will Boba Fett Get His Own Star Wars Spinoff Show?

While a Boba Fett movie is unlikely, that doesn’t mean he won’t get the chance at the starring role he’s long been tipped for. What is more plausible is that, as has been rumored, there will be a Boba Fett Disney+ TV show. While not confirmed, this would fit with Disney’s current priorities for Star Wars and what’s known of their plans. Aside from The Mandalorian, there are also Disney+ series on the horizon centering on the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor, which will flesh out details of their journeys. Such a miniseries would make a lot of sense for Boba Fett: it’s possible a Disney+ show could continue his story after The Mandalorian or, what may be even more likely, is tell the story of what happened to him after Return of the Jedi and his survival, something The Mandalorian itself noticeably hasn’t touched on yet.

Will Boba Fett Return In The Mandalorian Season 3?

Boba Fett clearly has a part to play in the endgame of The Mandalorian season 2, but what about after that? Whether or not he returns again in The Mandalorian season 3 may depend on where things leave him after the current run of episodes, especially if the spinoff does come to fruition, but it wouldn’t be a surprise at this stage if he were to return. As The Mandalorian season 2 has shown, it is more than happy to keep bringing back characters, with several returning faces – even those who seemed like one-offs. Depending on how things go down, then Boba Fett may well be among them again in The Mandalorian season 3.
