It seems that the Nintendo Switch is capable of running Crysis, as a new leak has revealed that Crysis Remastered is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Switch.

The Crysis Twitter account recently started uploading new posts for the first time since 2016, which fueled speculation about a new entry in the series or a remaster of one of the older Crysis games. Crytek has been uploading images from their new CRYENGINE graphics engine, which led to speculation that the first Crysis game was going to be remastered for modern systems.

It turns out that Crysis Remastered is on the way. A Twitter user named lashman has uploaded images and notes pulled directly from the Crytek website. It seems that Crysis Remastered is currently in development for all modern systems, including the Nintendo Switch. This marks the game’s debut on a Nintendo platform, as Crysis was available on older PlayStation and Xbox systems. There is currently no word on a release date for Crysis Remastered at this time.

The original Crysis was notorious for the high specs that were required in order to run it properly, to the point where the game became a benchmark for new hardware in the years following its release. The fact that the game will be running on a portable console is mind-blowing to people who remember the time when Crysis was the white whale of PC gamers around the world.

Crysis was ported to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2011, but the game is due for a full remaster on modern systems. The reviews for Crysis were extremely positive on launch and it’s a shame that the demanding specifications of the game overwhelmed the discourse surrounding it. Crysis was released a long time ago, so lots of gamers will have a chance to enjoy the game for what it is and not have to worry about whether it will run or not. The fact that people will be able to enjoy it on the go is an extremely impressive feat, though, we’ll need to wait and see some footage of the Switch port before we can decide if it’s worthwhile or not.
