A new art book featuring fan-made pieces depicting unseen elements from Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and other FromSoftware titles has been kickstarted with the aid of renowned Souls YouTuber, VaatiVidya. The book will even feature artistic interpretations of the developer’s upcoming title, Elden Ring, which is currently set to launch on January 21, 2022.

Starting back in 2012, VaatiVidya has become one of the most popular YouTubers when it comes to all things FromSoftware with a subscriber count that is currently closing in on nearly two million. Much of the content the channel is known for revolves around the lore of the Dark Souls series as well as the lore of Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Whilst making all of this content over the past few years, VaatiVidya has also managed to launch five fan art competitions focusing on FromSoftware’s titles and now the submissions from those competitions can all be found in one place.

Soul Arts is a recently-launched Kickstarter the features fan art inspired by Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and even Elden Ring. The book has no official link to any of those FromSoftware titles, making the art unique as it is entirely focused on locations, bosses, and weapons that are not found in any of the Dark Souls games though some are mentioned. VaatiVidya posted a video showcasing Soul Arts as well as promoting the Kickstarter, which went live on August 13. Within an hour of launching, backers obliterated the Soul Arts goal of €50,000 (or $58,842) and with 26 of the 30 days remaining the current total for the Kickstarter is over €660,000 (or $770,000).

While the concept alone was likely enough to draw in large amounts of backing, the support for the artists who contributed to the project probably added to the success. According to VaatiVidya, over one hundred artists whose work might be in Soul Arts were compensated for their submissions. Now, thanks to the overwhelming support, those artists will receive bonus compensation as well as their own free copies of the finished product. Names of the artists featured will appear next to their work and links to their portfolios will be found in the back of the book.

While not quite on the scale of the now-famous Critical Role Kickstarter, there are some similarities between it and Soul Arts. Both creators seemed to underestimate the level of support in their respective communities, resulting in massive funding that may not have been so surprising to a keen observer. Soul Arts look to be a resounding success just four days into its Kickstarter campaign and that no doubt will contribute to the excitement surrounding FromSoftware’s much-anticipated release of 2022, Elden Ring.
