Star of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, Deena Cortese revealed that she struggles with filming the hit MTV show and balancing being a new mom. She explained that returning to filming with Jersey Shore while wanting to be home with her son has proven to be a difficult adjustment for her.
Back before Jersey Shore was the huge entity it is today, Deena auditioned for season one but was rejected. After Angelina Pivarnick left the show after season two, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi suggested “blast in a glass” Deena as her replacement and she was cast in season three. The pint-sized self-described “walking holiday” was well-liked by both her Jersey Shore castmates and by fans. After season 6, Deena went on with her life away from the TV show. She became engaged to Christopher Buckner and the two were married in October 2017. On January 5th, 2019, Deena gave birth to her son, Christopher John “CJ” Buckner.
Now that Deena is in a different chapter in her life thanks to motherhood, she’s not quite used to her old meatball ways. As Deena began filming Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, it’s been rough going leaving her 11-month-old son behind. Deena opened up to Us Weekly at the E! People’s Choice Awards 2019 about balancing filming with being a mother, while weighing out the pros and cons. She said, “The show is an opportunity for my family.” Though she finds it’s difficult to leave her son, saying, “I want to just be with him 24-7, but at the same time this show gives him opportunities and I love being with my roommates. So it’s such a double-edged sword, you know?”
The Jersey girl explains that it’s good to get back into work, even if it is a sacrifice, saying, “At the end of the day, I know the show is good for him and I have to work too. Luckily … I can be mostly a stay at home mom. It just takes me away here and there.” The new mom gushed about her son, CJ, saying, “I just love being with him.” Her 11-month-old son just began to take his first steps as she documented on her Instagram post on November 8th. Deena revealed that she was feeling “nervous” about filming ahead of him walking, because she was afraid of missing the milestones in his development, saying, “I’m like, ‘If this kid walks before I get home, I’m going to just die because I’ve been teaching him.'”
Even though Deena is having a hard time adjusting back into her reality TV role, she’s taking on her new role as a mother with ease. It seems that while there are pros and cons to spending a few days here and there without her son, the money and opportunity that Jersey Shore provides for her is important so she can maintain being a stay at home mother to her son. Her co-star, Snooki, is a mother of three and has the same sentiments about leaving her children behind to film. It’s safe to say that these meatballs turned moms will be there for each other while they get back into the swing of filming. Who knows, there’s a chance fans will see the new generation on season four of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, which is set to return in 2020.
