Money Heist is one of the most underrated TV shows available on Netflix. Created by Álex Pina, the Spanish show follows a group of robbers, led by the mysterious Professor, as they try to pull off the biggest heist in the history of the world—2.4 billion euros—from the Royal Mint in Spain.

Part one of the series, which comprises of seasons one and two, featured some amazing characters, from the mysterious Professor to the headstrong Inspector. So, here are 10 smartest characters in Money Heist Part One, ranked according to intelligence.

10 Moscow

Moscow’s greatest utility was his experience with industrial equipment, which is why his major task was digging the tunnel, but one can’t deny that Moscow was quite smart.

While he did think of giving up and almost got shot, he was quite intelligent. He kept the group together and achieves a breakthrough by getting to the soil, leading to a rather rousing verse of “Bella Ciao.”

9 Arturo

Although he was one of the most hated characters in the show, one can’t deny that Arturo was not smart. He makes a plan to escape from the robbers, and, thanks to that, 16 hostages manage to escape the Royal Mint.

He also makes a plan to switch guns with Denver and almost manages to break out with the rest of the hostages. Rio, however, tells everyone Arturo’s plan to escape, and it ends up failing.

8 Tokyo

Tokyo, the narrator of the story, is also one of the smartest characters and an asset to the team. Although she was quite hot-headed, she knew how to keep herself calm and composed, even when captured by the police.

She also devises the plan to get back inside the Royal Mint and is smart enough to provide the team an extra precious day of making money by keeping the police engaged.

7 Nairobi

Another smart female lead, Nairobi is an expert in counterfeit money and hostage management. She ensured the money they printed was not only as close to genuine as possible, but also completely untraceable.

While the others initially lose hope when things start to go awry and get so mad at Berlin that they want to shoot him, Nairobi is calm and composed and refuses the situation—albeit by knocking him unconscious, but she does so without further violence and problems.

6 Angel

Angel Rubio is a sub-inspector of the Spanish police and is one of the smartest people working against the robbers. He has also been in love with Raquel for eight years.

Angel is the first one to figure out the identity of the Professor. Although he was jealous of Raquel and Salva, he does some commendable detective work and manages to find out that Salva and the Professor, are, in fact, one.

5 Rio

Rio is a major asset for the robbers, because of his expertise in computers. Rio is far younger than the others, at just around 20, and he didn’t have much experience in weapons and robbing.

He is shown to be an expert hacker and has a lot of knowledge about the deep web, as he helped the Professor buy weapons and explosives online.

4 Berlin

Berlin was the second in charge of the heist and was extremely knowledgeable of the plan and all its contingencies, and, in the end, it is revealed why: he is the Professor’s older brother.

Although he was shown to be quite psychotic, Berlin was quite intelligent, controlling and manipulating hostages with ease and getting them to help them in the heist.

3 The Professor’s Dad

Although not much is known about the Professor’s dad, viewers learn that he was a robber who was shot and killed while robbing a bank. He was said to be extremely intelligent, as he was the one who came up with the Royal Mint Heist.

The Professor reveals that it was his father’s last wish to have this heist pulled off and that the Professor was doing all this to pay homage to his father.

2 Raquel

Raquel was a force to be reckoned with throughout the series and keeps coming up with plans to defeat the robbers such as sending in Angel along with the doctors and later faking Angel waking up to lure the Professor there.

Although she is outsmarted by the Professor, she manages to figure out the identity of the Professor but is unable to hand him over to the police, as she loves Salva.

1 The Professor

The Professor is inarguably the smartest character on the show. Not only does he have a contingency for everything that goes wrong, having backup plans for the backup plans, but he also correctly predicts the behavior of the police. When Angel sneaks in as a doctor, his plan to bug him worked—he now had access to everything the police knew about the heist.

The Professor perfectly helps out the gang from outside, not only cleaning the car Helsinki didn’t, but he also successfully gets the team out with the money, with the exception of Oslo, Moscow, and Berlin), and they go home safe.
