Pokémon Go could be getting a special shiny Ditto event in the near future, with Niantic teasing an announcement on the company’s official Twitter account. Pokémon Go has remained one of the world’s most popular and successful mobile games. Despite launching almost five years ago, the title still has plenty of players and is regularly updated with new content and features. One recent example is the inclusion of Mega Gyarados along with the arrival of Jessie and James.

The Kanto Tour in Pokémon Go is an upcoming premium event that will see players choosing one of two distinct versions to play through in the form of Red and Green. Costing $11.99 to play, the Kanto Tour gives users the opportunity to catch every single Pokémon from the original roster of 150, including shiny versions of each creature. The special event is set to begin on February 20 and will last just 24 hours, although it will provide lots of bonuses, rewards, and other in-game boosts that players can collect.

Niantic has teased an announcement about some sort of Shiny Ditto event in Pokémon Go in a recent Tweet. The company posted a message earlier today, showing a Pokéball with the text “Oh?” above it. This is an obvious reference to Ditto, which disguises itself as other Pokémon in the mobile title. Players only know they’ve caught the elusive creature when that text appears in-game rather than the traditional “Gotcha” announcement, with the disguise fading away to reveal Ditto. With Niantic claiming that it has additional details about the Pokémon Go Kanto Tour alongside this image, it suggests some sort of news about Ditto, in particular, is on the way in the near future.

While Pokémon Go has continued its long run of success, there have been some issues in recent times. Perhaps the worst problem for players over the last few weeks has been a glitch that can reset players’ EXP progress. Some users reported that their progress towards reaching level 49, the second-highest level in the game, was erased. Considering the sheer amount of XP necessary to go from level 48 to 49, this caused something of a stir in the community.

February looks set to be a busy month for Pokémon Go. Niantic is hosting several high-profile events, including the upcoming Kanto Tour and the recent Lunar New Year celebration. The fact that the game might get even more special events is surprising but will certainly be welcomed by fans who would love to get their hands on a shiny Ditto.
