Although the 8th generation Pokemon games Sword and Shield released to a myriad of controversy, with many fans expecting more from the first mainline Pokemon titles on the Switch, the games have continued to sell incredibly well on the system. Just last year, rather than a follow-up title, Game Freak opted to release the main series’ first ever DLC Expansions: The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra.

Although the games are about a year-and-a-half old now, it that seems fans continue to make interesting discoveries about them. Some fans have made their own fun by trying to beat the titles in new and unique ways, and others have spent time discovering new Shiny hunting methods. Now, one Pokemon fan has shared an interesting Easter egg that seems to have flown under the radar of many.

Over on Reddit, user Quirky_Image_5598 quickly went viral and hit the front page of the Sword and Shield subreddit for their clip of the game’s Summary screen. It turns out that not many fans were aware that when players click down on the left stick of their controller while viewing a Pokemon’s summary screen, the monster will perform one of its in-battle animations.

The Reddit user was surprised (and a bit scared) to see their Shiny Obstagoon jump out at them, seemingly breaking the fourth wall by even covering the screen’s text. Fans bombarded the comments of the Reddit post with absolute disbelief over how they could have missed this neat yet minute detail despite how much time they’ve spent with the games. One user mentioned that even after 980 hours in Pokemon Sword and Shield, they had no idea that this feature even existed. Additionally, fans proceeded to go straight to their Nintendo Switch systems to begin testing out the new discovery on every one of their Pokemon to see which animation they will perform.

The feature is very similar to one in Pokemon GO, where a player’s Pokemon will perform an attack animation after being tapped on the game’s summary screens. This feature may also be a callback to Pokemon Black and White, where players could tap the Nintendo DS’ touch screen when viewing their Pokemon’s summary to view it from the back as they would in battle.

Although fans continue to enjoy Pokemon Sword and Shield, they look forward to the release of the 4th generation remakes Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl sometime later this year. Many hope to learn more about the upcoming games soon at E3 2021 in June.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available for Nintendo Switch.
