After Spider-Man: Far From Home grossed over $1 billion, Sony decided to take Spidey back from Marvel Studios a little earlier than expected, which threw the MCU fanbase into a panic, because it seemed to mean that Far From Home’s shocking cliffhanger would never be resolved. Thankfully, Tom Holland spoke to the studio heads and got them to come to an agreement.

Sure, Spidey may be back in the MCU for a couple of movies, but his departure is still inevitable. Although, when Sony eventually regains the full Spidey film rights, the studio could continue his arc outside the MCU.

8 Carry On His Solo Series Without References To The Wider MCU

Since Marvel Studios likes to keep its highly anticipated plots under wraps, it’s unclear exactly what will happen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But, short of Peter Parker dying in gruesome fashion, it’ll probably leave the story open-ended. However No Way Home ends, Sony could just follow on from that with more Spider-Man solo movies starring Tom Holland.

Of course, Sony would have to eradicate any references to the wider MCU, but this might make the stories stronger, as it would refocus the series on Peter Parker himself. Focusing on Peter’s journey is a large part of what made Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy such a resounding success.

7 Integrate Him Into The Animated Spider-Verse

Just when Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 rocked fans’ faith in Sony’s ability to mount a Spidey movie franchise, the studio brought out Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, one of the greatest comic book movies of all time and a masterpiece of cinematic animation.

With all the potential for sequels and spin-offs, Into the Spider-Verse is seemingly just the beginning. The post-credits scene provided Oscar Isaac’s debut as Spider-Man 2099, teasing a bright future for Spidey’s interdimensional cartoon adventures. Tom Holland’s Spidey could be integrated into the animated Spider-Verse alongside all the other Spider-Men.

6 Use His MCU Departure To Launch A Live-Action Spider-Verse

Alternatively, Sony could use Tom Holland’s MCU departure to launch a live-action Spider-Verse franchise, dragging him through the multiverse and into a bunch of alternate non-MCU dimensions.

Some fans are speculating that Spider-Man: No Way Home will lead to a live-action Spider-Verse, but just because Alfred Molina’s playing Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx is playing Electro, it doesn’t automatically mean Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men are going to show up. Sony could be saving such a crossover for the future.

5 A Buddy Movie With Tom Hardy’s Venom

Since Tom Hardy’s Venom is pretty much the cornerstone of Sony’s cinematic universe of Spidey supporting characters, Tom Holland’s Spidey could be integrated into the franchise in a buddy movie that pairs him up with Hardy’s Eddie Brock.

In the comics, Spidey and Venom are usually enemies, but they’ve been known to reluctantly team up when they have a common enemy – usually Carnage, who’s about to take center stage in the Venom sequel – that they can’t defeat alone.

4 Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven Could Hunt Him

The latest Sony-mounted Marvel project to go into development is a Kraven the Hunter movie starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the iconic Spidey villain. Directed by Triple Frontier’s J.C. Chandor, Kraven the Hunter is set to hit theaters on January 13, 2023. The movie will presumably focus on Kraven himself, but he’ll inevitably become a part of the larger universe.

An interesting way to tackle Kraven – a big-game hunter who’s determined to track down and kill Spidey, who he deems to be the greatest prey of all – would be to chronicle his hunt for Spidey through his own eyes, with Holland appearing in the periphery.

3 Follow His College Years

If Sony just ignores Peter Parker’s connection to the Avengers and his contributions to saving the world from Thanos and simply continues his story beyond high school, then the movies could follow his college years.

Sony could make a trilogy of family-friendly college comedies (more Monsters University than Animal House) to follow up the MCU’s trilogy of John Hughes-style high school comedies.

2 Replace Tony Stark With His Real Father Figure (Uncle Ben)

The emotional crux of Spidey’s solo adventures in the MCU has been his father-son dynamic with Tony Stark. Even in Far From Home, after Tony died, his shadow loomed large over Peter’s story. But in the comics, Tony isn’t Spidey’s father figure.

Peter’s true father figure is Uncle Ben, who’s presumably already dead in the MCU timeline. In Sony’s Spider-Man movies, the studio could faze out references to Tony and replace that emotional arc with flashbacks to wisdom that Uncle Ben imparted before his death.

1 Explore A World That Knows Spidey’s Secret Identity

Assuming No Way Home will clear everything up from Far From Home’s bombshell ending, the cat is still out of the bag. The MCU’s Spidey is living in a world that knows his secret identity, and that world has never been explored before on the big screen.

Sony’s Holland-starring Spider-Man solo series could pick up in the aftermath of No Way Home, in which a more mature, world-weary Peter Parker is known to the public. After three Spidey franchises in two decades, Sony could finally look at this familiar icon from a unique angle.
