First-person survival horror game Silver Chains, which has already been available on PC since August 2019, is headed to both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on January 29. Accompanying the announcement by developer Cracked Head Games and publisher Headup is a terrifying trailer that will tantalize any horror-lover’s tastebuds.

You play as the unlucky gentleman Peter, who rams his car into a tree and wakes up in an ominous mansion somewhere in the English countryside. The new trailer takes you on a bit of a tour through this charming place, showcasing some of its totally pleasant residents too.

As you can see in the trailer, Silver Chains evidently draws strongly on the likes of Amnesia and Outlast in both atmosphere and plot. There’s even a distinct nod towards P.T.’s original concept movie from 2014 which featured that ball being spookily pulled and bounced against a closed door:

Yup, it’s all there. The looming mansion – seemingly abandoned but actually teeming with all kinds of truly terrifying entities out to get ya? Check. Restrained, wheelchair-bound, spinny-headed people? A lone protagonist with a serious case of The Forgets? Cowering in cupboards? Check, check, and check.

Silver Chains unfortunately received a bit of flak for lacking originality in things like its setting and plot, and you can definitely see that it leans into some of horror gaming’s biggest tropes. But it certainly still deserves a fair chance, if at the very least to see how these tropes were used. That often makes all the difference.

Plus, tropes are tropes for a reason after all – love them or hate them, they do tend to work. As a result, this game looks damn scary, especially coupled with gorgeous photorealistic visuals and that incredibly disconcerting audio.

You can check Silver Chains out for yourself now on PC via Steam, and on both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on January 29, 2021.
