With the lack of E3 this year, it is falling on publishers and developers to host their own Livestream events to reveal upcoming new projects. Not wishing to waste time, Ubisoft has announced that it will be forging its own path forward with “Ubisoft Forward,” a replacement stream for its canceled E3 festivities. Announced on Twitter this morning, the company promises “exclusive game news, reveals and more.”

We don’t know a whole lot about the event other than it will take place on July 12 at 12 pm PDT/9 pm CEST. The highlight will probably be Watch Dogs: Legion considering it was pushed back for launch on next-generation devices. We may also see a proper gameplay reveal of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which is tentatively scheduled for holiday 2020.

Looking into the past, Ubisoft’s E3 events have been full of spectacle and lame attempts at humor. People still riff on Mr. Caffeine and his shockingly awkward antics, but it seems Ubisoft knows how to make things stick in the mind (even if it’s for the wrong reasons). We’ll probably see more celebrity guests and try-hard attempts at appealing to the younger demographic.

Realistically, I would like to finally get a concrete release date for Beyond Good & Evil 2 and see the company acknowledge how far it has fallen with the Tom Clancy branding. A new Splinter Cell isn’t going to magically materialize if the company isn’t currently working on it, but just let fans know that something is being cooked up. The failure of Ghost Recon Breakpoint is still fresh in our minds.

It would also be great to get confirmation on whether or not Valhalla will be loaded with microtransaction DLC like past Assassin’s Creed titles. Ubisoft was once a proud developer in the PS2/Xbox era, but has come under fire in recent years for its sometimes scummy business practices -not to mention its plethora of various editions for each new game-.

I’ll never knock the company continuously working on games and improving them (Rainbow Six: Siege says hello), but it should be doing better to ensure things launch in a proper state. Show us that for next-generation and then I’ll be happy.
